The Original is a unique Cub Cadet in almost every respect.

Narrow Frame would be: 70, 100, 71, 102, 122, 123, 72, 104, 124, 105, 125, 73, 106, 126, 107, 127, 147.

Wide Frame would be: 86, 108, 128, 109, 129, 149 169, 800, 1000, 1200, 1250, 1450, 1650.

Then the 82 series are considered "Spread Frame" and those would be: 482, 1282, 582, 682, 782, 982. The 982 being a Super Garden Tractor as it has a longer wheel base. After that it's on into the CCC/MTD designed and built Cub Cadets.

Thank You....Very helpful.

Is there any advantage of one frame over the other.

I'm going to look at a 782 in a few hours....."Spread Frame"

You can mount larger engines in the wide frame and spread frame. The wide frame and spread frame models have removable tunnel covers for easier access to the hydro and drive shaft.

I should mention that the 147 is also unique in that is has a wider section of the frame to allow the larger flywheel of the 14hp to fit.

I've been told that the even numbers are stick shift and odd Hydro Correct?

Yes with a few exceptions. The 73 that Zachary mentioned, but also the 71. From the Quiet Line series the 800, 1000 and 1200 were gear drive, the 1250, 1450 and 1650 were hydro. The 82 series "spread frames" all end with 2. Of those the 482, 582 and 582 Special were gear drive.

Good info. Can we also identify which ones have the metal pedestal? I like them all but I think the metal pedestals look a little better. I could never figure which had them. Thank you.

If you are referring to the metal dash, then these models had the metal dash: Original, 70, 100, 71, 102, 122, 123, 72 and 73. The 73 had a white painted metal dash, the rest had a yellow painted metal dash. All had a decal over the metal.

Thanks for the info. I thought it may be by years, but the 72 and 73 were after the 122 and 123. Thanks for the dash vs pedestal clarification. Was the same pedestal used under the dashes? I dont need the whole unit if the dash is smashed? Good to know, thanks again.

The pedestal is different underneath the fiberglass dash. Here's what it looks like under the fiberglass dash on a 105/125 (note a previous owner used a torch to get the steering column out):
