Speaking of Vista sucking,
It seems we have a few members that are having problems with Vista remembering user ID's and passwords on certain but not all websites.
Anyone have a fix for that?

Use Netscape browser since it handles the passwords. I'd bet they're "using what it came with"...

Naturally it works just fine here using "what came in the box."

Discus' username/password remembering feature uses cookies. Since we know we have a lot of paranoid people out there, what's to say they're not over-cleaning their tracks, if you will? Or maybe they're using a work computer that cleans up the computer. Or their computer vendor bundled some utility that cleans up. Doesn't mean IE, the OS or whatever is at fault.

You don't really want to run a help desk here, do you?

Bryan,
Not me! grin
I don't use Vista, don't wanna use Vista, and ain't gonna use Vista.
I personally dint see anything wrong with 3.1!

3.1 worked especially well in a DesqView window on top of DR DOS ...

How do you change the location where downloaded files are saved in Vista? I'm sick of stuff filling my desktop, and I can't figure out how to change this setting in this OS. Thanks!

Okay. Question that Angel asked me to pose here. When she puts any pictures on the computer into the files or documents (I am not that computer literate remember) the computer stores them at 480 by 640 and at 156 KB. We have the Vista Home Premium. Okay... what do we need to do to resize the pics so that I can post them? Any help is much appreciated and I'll read things tomorrow after I get home. going to bed here soon. TIA>

Matt:
The default download location is usually set in the program doing the downloading - in this case, your browser. In Firefox, it's on the Main tab under Tools/Options on the toolbar. In IE, when you download a file, it asks you which folder to save it in. The next time you save a file, it uses that folder as the default but gives you the opportunity to browse to a different folder..

Marlin: I hate to admit it, but I've stayed away from Vista up till now. In XP, the saved size of the picture is the size it was created at, so if this were on my system, the camera would be creating the picture at 640 x 480 and then being saved to the folder on the computer at that size. I've used several picture resizing utilities, right now I'm fond of one called Pixresizer which is freeware from http://bluefive.pair.com/. I've tried several that all work - I'll bet Kraig has a recommendation here...

Hell he was saying "Dewete" anyway ... I don't speak clear but I'm not that bad !

I bought VueScan from Mr. Hamrick to get my HP 6250 to work with Vista. Seems HP, in its usual wisdom, won't be writing Vista drivers.

Then again, we have a 2 year old Fujitsu scanner at work that cost quite a bit (read - 4 digits) - Fujitsu isn't writing Vista drivers, either.

Boy am I glad I loaded xp on my tower just before it left the market. Vista seems ok on the lap top but then I dosen't do much more than surf the net and hang out here.

Downside of Vista on laptops is that the video driver usually sucks, so you end up with a lousy "experience" number. They haven't figured out how to stick a hot PCI-E video card with decent driver in a laptop yet.

Well, I just got done reformatting my Dell Inspiron 1520 to remove Vista and put XP pro on it. Wish I would have done that a long time ago. It boots up faster and everything works better.

I've been working with PCs as a user since 1981. As far as I can tell, XP Pro is the best OS MS has produced. PCs are no more than a tool to me - I am using one about 9 or 10 hours a day, five days a week. On the weekend I don't even glance at the thing. I can't imagine sitting down in my off hours to play a game or something any more than I would shovel sand on weekends to take a break from my job of shoveling manure during the week. It's just a tool. And when I am done working, I put my tools away and go get a beer.

All I want is for the dang thing not to crash and ruin my work or crash and keep me from earning my living. Thats all. Vista might be necessary for gaming or Youtubeaholics or pornoids and people afraid of going outdoors. I think Bryan hit the nail on the head with posting numero uno: It's just this year's ME.

Someday maybe I'll figure out how to port my database from Lotus Approach into a Mac and leave all this strife behind...

Vista is worse for games and things like that than XP. My games and other programs work much better now that I've switched back to XP. Vista seems to be more for people that care about looks instead of performance. When I had Vista on my laptop it would use almost 40% of 2GB of ram just sitting there, and it would go up to close to 100% when installing software or doing other things.

Matt - I like XP BUT '98 still had it's advantages ... even 3.1 wasn't all bad.
My XP usage...

Will NOT go to Vista !

98 had advantages? Like what, running DOS?

Despite there being a Vista Business edition, I can say that there's not much use for Vista in the workplace. However, it runs quite nicely on my Sun Ultra 20

All I can say is, I'm an IT professional, don't try this at home...
