Time to redo the starter-generator on my CC149, as it no longer generates. (voltage at "A" terminal = 0V @ 3600rpm, even with "F" shorted to ground. (made no difference.) Starts reasonably, probably because I've tried to keep it on a battery maintainer when not running. I'm thinking the generating winding, but have not looked yet. Last time I looked, the brushes seemed to still be contacting the commutator, but the shaft was slightly loose in the bushing. (previous work, bushing installed so that the oil hole did not line up with the oil passage, and oil passage was plugged off.)

My question is, should I make an effort to get a bearing type end plate to replace the bushing-type end plate currently on it? I will have the work done at my local starter-generator-alternator-battery specialist. They've always done GOOD, reasonably priced work for me in the past, rebuilding alternators, etc. He didn't ask, just did, replaced the bearings when redoing slip rings on my alternator. (I forgot to tell him). My kind of guy! He doesn't believe in doing half a job.

I would suggest a roller bearing. yes the bushing lasted 25-30 years before failure but the bearing did the same and did not fail after 25-30 years (at least mine did not but my bushing was shot). I replaced the entire starter generator assembly roller bearings both ends. charging is the same but Start up is much easier - I am not comparing good with good I am comparing original worn out with new.
