I rebuilt engine on my k341. I replaced bored 10 over ,new piston ,rings , rod , points , coil , carb .It cranks real slow. So replaced battery and rebuilt starter . It turn over slow and started once ran for couple minutes and than died . Now it won't start . What could be wrong?
 
Does it spin freely by hand? Did you use plastigage on the rod clearance? If the rod is too tight on the crank, it will turn slowly, if the piston/rings are too tight in the bore, it will turn slowly.
 
Another question is what style starter is it ? Bendix or starter generator? Did you take into account for the ACR when the exhaust valve was adjusted.

I checked the rod clearance and checked the rings.

starter generator but I didn't know it had a acr.
 
Did you static time it during the rebuild while it was still on your bench.
That's the very last thing you should do before installation back into the frame.

What all did that entail?

The ACR is an arm and spring on the cam gear. The way I checked my 149 was to observe the exhaust valve lift a little on the compression stroke and check the lash during the power stroke. Mine was adjusted so that the gap was at .010 during the compression release function which made the running gap huge.
 
It still won't start and run battery down with a few cranks. I ajusted the valve again if I'm doing it right and the points have a very weak spark.
 
Does the Starter/Generator spin good when it's not connected to the engine?
I have run them unloaded and let them spin for a minute or so and many times you can actually hear the rpm's really climb.
Then reconnect the belt and see if it's improved.
 
The book I have says to ajust exhaust valve to .018 but when I do this compression release doesn't work. This has the starter cranking very slow and won't start.
