i now have 4 narrow frames with sediment bowls that leak from the on/off valve. i have just taken to replacing the whole mess with 1/4" rubber hose and cheapo plastic petcock and fuel filters, which are hard to make look right. anyone have any suggestions of either rebuilding these leaky things or replacement with a good metal petcock that will thread onto the bottom of the tank? i really don't care about originality, just function and neatness. i know i can buy new sediment bowls but would rather not spend the money.

Open the valve and tighen the packing nut, still leak? remove the packing in the valve by removing it with a 5/16 wrench and replacing it with an o ring

If you replace the packing with an O-ring, be sure to get a nitrile O-ring, as it is chemically compatible with gasoline.

New sediment bowl assemblies are about $15 each, not much more than shutoff valves, fittings, rubber tubing, etc.

I would stay far away from those cheap plastic shutoffs. They do not last. I had those on several tractors of mine, and not one of them lasted more than about 3 years.
