Picked this up free. Can't really get parts easy in Australia, so even the seat is pretty ugly.. i did end up putting upholstery over the plastic chair until i can get a proper one.

Rats, white wheels - I LIKED the look of the chromies.

When you had the Cub apart did you take a look at the weld on the shift lever for cracks? The weld broke on my 1000 with a 3 speed manual transmission earlier this summer. It seems that is a common problem with the 3 speeds, but it's an easy fix.

I liked the Chrome look myself but would have taken a lot of clear to leave them like that, that steel stuff just rusts to quick. And i checked all joints, shafts and more fore cracks, wear and more.

Just an FYI for those that don't know, this series/body style of Cub Cadet, see below, are commonly referred to as the Cyclops due to the single lens headlight design.

And my personal opinion, the best looking cub! Not best built, or best cub, just the best looking. I've wanted to put the cyclops body on my 149 for a while. But that's more cosmetic work than I want to do on a bullet proof machine.

While I am VERY partial to all things 82 series, the Cyclops era machines did have some engineering improvements over it's predecessors. I think overall they might have been the best Cubs ever EXCEPT for that damned plastic nose. The only benefits with the plastic are less rattles and no rust.

I agree with you that they are good looking, certainly the best looking of the post IH designed Cub Cadets. I still favor the 1x4/5 and the 70/100 for looks however.

I kinda like them as well. I'm actually starting to check out the post-IH cubs (the earlier ones) and find them pretty neat.
I'll agree with Kraig on the 70 / 100 series but I have to confess that my least favorite IH design was the 4 / 6 series. I really like the 9 series the most...👍😎👍
