Yes an upgrade. I’ll still have the complete working 10HP Kohler as a result. Haven’t decided yet about it’s fate. I may pull it apart & refresh. Or may just put on shelf for a later project

Works well either way, right?
 
Finally managed to get the 12 HP installed in my 106. Had real issues with the eBay replacement carb. First off the fuel bowl overfilled & gasoline just poured out. Pulled bowl to adjust float, then again & again. The tab on the float is horrible thin & the slightest effort bends it. Finally got float level adjusted & engine started but then couldn’t “tune” the carb to get satisfactory result. I installed the original carb off the 10 HP only cleaning it with brake cleaner. Runs & adjusts ok but needs throttle shaft reworked. Idles well & transition to high speed is good. At governed, no load speed it’s not as stable as I’d like. I’m sure it’s pulling air around throttle shaft.
