Hello
I have had a look on the cowling .. and every where I can see .. no engine number ..
Is there a ignition coil that usually fits these Cadet 85's .. If so can some one please supply the part number so I can order one ..
Thank you
Rgds
Alan
Hello from a very hot Brittany ..
First my apologies.. the s/n number was there .. it was just so faint and covered in rusty paint.. I did not see it ..
Next .. My sincere thanks to all who are helping me on this “voyage of discovery with a Cadet” ..
Not owning one before has seen me having to find a few things out ..
I “borrowed” a coil off one of my other engines and fitted it.. the engine started .. lovely ..
I put her in to gear .. and she leapt forward and started climbing the wall of my workshop..
Nuts, bolts, tools everywhere.. these machines are fast of the take off .. stopping the engine was a problem as I had not fitted the “kill” … I have now fitted the “kill” wire.. just got a couple of tubes to put in the tyres that have cracks .. … then I will try her out properly . ..
Then back into the workshop for a proper service and blade and belt check ..
The seat must move to get to the battery.. but .. I cannot find out how though .. any tips please ..
Thanks again .. Rgds Alan

There is a wing nut that holds the seat on accessible by reaching under next to the engine. Remove it, lift it up and slide the seat back. It will come right off. Most don't even have the wingnut anymore. In first gear, they will leap forward and even pull the tires off the ground! Lots of torque due to gear ratio. That's what makes them great for mowing up and down hills, plus the low center of gravity.

Hello
Update.. The 85 is now running and cutting ..
Next job is to take her to bits and give her a good clean, oiling and greasing..
The mower deck needs completely revamping .. painting .. blades sharpening.. etc..
One thing I have found …
She does not like small inclines .. usually in third gear .. but also in second gear.. .
Is this a belt or gearbox problem .. either way .. what is the best was of solving the issue..
The belts seem Ok .. but until I drop the deck I will not know for certain ..
Thanks for all the help .. I really do appreciate it ..

LOL! It will climb a workshop wall, but not a slight hill?!

I’m pleased to hear that you got it running.
