The Vanguard is unlike the other briggs. All of the old opposed twins had issues. A Vanguard, Command, Honda, Predator engines are light years ahead. They are used in ag and industry and will run many more hours than the old flatties. They run smoother and use way less gas.
I have had the same experience with the Vanguard motors I have came across through the years

Yes, the 2B tiller has the 5/8" pulley to match the 782 PTO pulley & drive belt. But if you have access to a model 2A, you could replace the 1/2" pulley with 5/8" & be good to go. The QA-42A snow thrower has the adjustable mounting bracket to fit older narrow frame Cubs or the wide frames, like the 782. The plain QA-42 is for narrow frames only and won't work with your 782. Good luck in your search.
Found a Qa-36 would that work?

Nothing is as bad as B&S first attempt at a twin cylinder....................................I don't know if they ever truly ran on both cylinders.

The Vangards are not too bad. Certainly not the best
