Jake, could be as simple as paint on the driveshaft where the clutch pressure plates ride/slide apart, or where the bushing is. Everything must be able to move freely, any binding will keep the driveshaft spinning.

Thank you for that diagram it is great. . And yes that’s kind of what I was thinking is paint or something just hanging it up and that’s why I decided to work on the wiring. But I guess I will pull the engine back out Sunday.

Well after 2 hitches at work and a week of my daughter and grand kids with us I finally get to work on the 70. All new wiring and ignition switch and push button starter and I have no spark unless you turn the key to start position. Granted it’s not the correct 2 position switch but still should work. I have moved the wires back and forth to opposite posts to no resolve. And with the switch off the engine still turns over. Any thoughts Besides the correct on off 2 position switch.

Isn't that how it is suppose to work? The push button will always work even when the key is off. That is why the later models changed to a safety switch setup.
Turn the key on and push the button and vroom!!

Looking at the wiring diagram, that is possible. I just never thought of trying the push button starting switch with the ignition switch off. :errrr:

I wouldn’t have thought that either. This is my first push button start. This and one of my cadet connections books is my wiring diagram and is correct. It must be in the key switch because I have tried each possible way and only get spark when the key is detente’s to the start position. Thank you for the info.

I'm thinking that it's normal. 12 volts to Push Button to starter... Separate 12 volts goes thru ignition switch to coil.

Well a correct 2 position switch and the 70 is running good. Still having some clutch adjustment issues but I have drove it around a little bit and will get it adjusted correctly. Trying to decide weather to put my stickers on the hood and call it good for now or take it off and re sand and paint some rough spots. It’s been a good fun and challenging project. Pictures in the sun this afternoon.

Not a show stopper but not bad. Thank you all for all of your help and advice. It was and is greatly appreciated and used and will continue to use on my next project.
