Earl,

Yes, the top casting for the rear will fit. I actually have a Red rockshaft on my 1450 that I took off a CCC Red 782 that has a blown KT17.

However, you will need a wideframe lift bar, that goes from the lift arm where the cylinder is, to the rockshaft. You will also need the piece that bolts to the lift arm and connect to the lift rod. Also, if the doner had an aluminum rear the lower U-Bracket may be different. This is am not 100% on, since I've never dealt with an aluminum rear garden tractor.....

One other difference, depending on the year a quietline is, changes how the rear rockshaft is held on. The early tractors (Serial # 616145 and below) have a bushing welded to the frame where the rockshaft goes. If you have the bushings, there is a single rod that passed through the frame, both bushings, and the rockshaft. If it doesn't have bushings, (Serial # 616146 and Above) have 2 "Frankenstein" bolts with nuts that hold the rockshaft in place.

Scott/Earl-

A WF lift bar will not work on a 782; you need a straight lift bar. There is no piece that bolts to the rockshaft to connect it. That was eliminated on the 82 series. There is a counterbored hole at the rockshaft end. All that is needed there is a longer clevis pin. From Earl's picture, that's an IH-built 782, so the lower bracket from any IH-built tractor will work.

Yes, its an IH built 782, early 81 I think. I checked and wrote down but will have to do again.
I have 3 quiet line 3 points and its an aluminum rear end but has cast iron bolt pattern. I saw the repro lift bars and if I can get the fuel pump and tank sorted soon I already ordered a better lower bracket from Charlie with the side ears that bolt into the axle tubes.
I appreciate the info Matt and Scott!

On the tractors having an aluminum or cast iron rear end, did IH and later CCC keep switching back and forth? I swear I've seen both on the 82 series. I can say that my 782 has been apart before, judging by the difference in bolts throughout.

If there are three bolts holding the drawbar on, it is a cast iron rear. The axle tubes are aluminum, but that is it. No IH-built tractor ever had an aluminum rearend. The CCC-built units below 719,999 (I think) have CI rears and a bunch of IH parts. Some of the IH parts carried further into CCC production. I once found "WP" head bolts on an 1811.

OK, I had it in my brain wrong then. Its got aluminum tubes for sure. I should stop assuming what I don't know!
I appreciate the educational lesson!

Nate:
Thanks for the idea of the RPM gun. I did not know about them. I have one ordered. Then I will have an idea of how fast it is running. It shouldn't have changed but I would like to know.
Thanks again
Earl L

Flat seized up front wheels, power winch was invaluable on this one. 102 I'll pic tomorrow in daylight. That rolled nicely. 102 ran prob 4-5 years ago, 104 has not run in over 20. I remember seeing the 104 sit behind a garage, would ride my bicycle and always ride past it to see it. I'm glad I my buddy got it and I from him.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that help answer my questions on my 128 and have helped me with parts! Finally got it going about mid July and have been happily cutting lawn with it ever since. I'm really liking these gear drives.

Putting rubber between the lower and upper casting by the hood hinge really helps with rattles.

I love that 128 Jim! Nice worker!
I sprayed up the front spindles with penetrating oil on the 104. I have another good set of wide fronts when I can get these removed. I might be buying more wheel bearings than I first thought...
I'm going to also spray up the clutch now that I think about it. Probably 3/4 of the tractor too. All the glass is intact and both doors work, albeit latches are rusty.

Earl F. Nice job bringing home the 104.

Jim S. Your 128 looks good. I put neoprene between the grill casting and the frame to reduce vibration and the noise that comes with it.

Between the summer heat and the rains lately, I've had very little time to work on any Cub Cadet projects. Now I'm playing catch up on weekends.

Earl, which rpm meter did you buy?

I just one at every tractor pull for our 4,000 rpm-limited classes. I tried one with the reflective tape, and either it was too dark for the meter to even read, or the very vibration of the engine was enough to through the readings all over the place. Even my unsteady hand you make it off. It was such a hassle.

I ended up buying a digital meter that read the spark plug wire, tracks the high/low, and I can switch between 2/4 stroke, reg dist, or distributorless.

It does other things to... it was like $160 if I remember right.

As promised a shot of 102 as well. She's not pretty yet and has a black replacement engine, k301. Throttle and choke cables are froze, half tank of old gas, and a number of PO done things, not by my buddy, so I guess PPO?

Nic and all, what about"tiny tac"?
I saw it wraps a wire around plug wire. The one I saw did not work, left on an old pulling tractor with a Wisconsin engine. Would it work on a Kohler? I'd like to be able to verify my cubs Rpms as well.

Great pics Earl! I like 'em all. I'm definitely partial to that 100. I hope it finds its way to BPD X so I can

That time of year again!
And the ol' 1200 stepped up to the plate once again! Garden was good this year, over 300# of spuds, lots and lots of them fist size and larger.

At least I had time to get the brinly dialed in BEFORE the big day this month!!

Tiny techs are terrible. They don't hold up to the vibration of the tractor and die quickly. They are also completely non-adjustable. So you only hope they are calibrated somewhere close. Remember, just like cub parts... you get what you pay for.
