Looking ahead to installing a PTO back on the 149, even though we had a dusting of snow yesterday. I have a rebuilt PTO from my 72 which is down for an engine rebuild. Can I use a narrow frame PTO on the 149? Will be mounting a 38" mower deck.

Jim K.
Yes you can as long as the 149 PTO is not a brake style.
If it is, you'll have to change the center button.

Here's my 122 seat.

Picked up a 104 and 102 yesterday from craigslist. Both are in non running condition at the moment. Was just going to take the one and the guy said go ahead and take both. Got 2 10 horse motors, decks and a snow blade with them. Goal is to make one a complete runner. The only thing I'm missing is a starter generator. I've looked in the classifieds and didn't see any. Portland is coming up soon, sure I can find one there unless I find one before.

Joe Donovan, did you look at C C Specialties under the heading of "Engine Parts". All sorts of control cables listed.

hey Fellas I've been a member for several years but haven't had much to say until now!! I've been looking for a manual on my 682. I was able to find one for my 149? I just bought the 149 to replace my original that i sold to buy a house. it needs some love but all in all I think its going to make a solid tractor.
Still Loving my Cub Cadets!

Jsaon - I assume you found the link to Charlie's FAQs under the link to the Cub Cadet FAQ's at the heading of this page. If so then it's FAQ No. 94 and directly linked here. http://cubfaq.com/corkgasket.html

This has got to be one of the best written FAQs ever and Gerry Ide certainly deserves 110% credit every time it's mentioned.

If for some reason you never found the link to all of Charlie's FAQs then here are the steps to get to it. 1st click on the link at the top of this page to the FAQs. Once there just click on the link at the heading where it says Charlie's FAQs at cubfaq.com

Yes, I Read through a few of the Topics on the FAQ's page here and a few other Sites also before purchase.
I figured I'd have at least a "Little" work ahead of me Purchasing a "Running" 149 and Not a Totally "Restored" 149.
So I wanted to Familiarize myself with and "Understand" the Mechanics as much as possible before I Dove in Blindly.
I Read many post and came across the Infamous "Cork Gasket" several times during my research but haven't read through the "How To" Link you Posted. GOOD INFO!!!!
Thanks!!!
I Have through much DEMISE Finally down through the years convinced myself "If it Ain't Broke, DON'T FIX IT" that's a whole nother Story, LoL
Although I do understand Good Preventive Maintenance will keep Machinery up and Running...
Anyway CL ad Stated Runs Great and Everything works as it Should, so I jumped on the Opportunity.

Jason - since you already completed your trunion repair and the tractor is going to be a real worker I'd probably wouldn't worry about the infamous cork gasket. You can just wait and see if the 149 marks it's spot. It's almost always a really really minor drip, and with 14 pints of HyTran in your rearend you wouldn't notice the difference for about 50 years. It's just one of those annoying things if you got a nice floor where you park it. It used to be a $3 gasket that took 4 hours to install, then became a $6 gasket that took about 3 hours (after FAQ help and having finally done it once). I haven't checked price of the gasket recently but it's probably gone up again and the install time - well for you it's probably 2 hours now.

Rob Hoults and family
Congratulations on the recognitions.
How many hours would have been put into that since 1934?

Making the assumption only one family member was there and only worked a 40 hour week. that would have been 170,560 hours. Anyone that has run a family owned business knows you do not get to work a 40 hour week. I would also bet at least 2 family members were there on average.

350,000 hours as a guess?

Recognition well deserved.

Bill

Since my throttle lever was in good shape, I found a new metal cable at NAPA. Cut to match the original one.

Johnny Wynn,

In case you haven't found a good spray gun yet, Lowes has a nice one for around 35 bucks.

Thanks Marty, I think I'm gonna go with a Astro Hvlp I got a Ford 9N that needs painting too.

OK, I give up. I have tried the FAQs and can't find the belt size section anywhere. I realize I should know this but I'm just trying to see if a belt I have will fit.

Kraig???, Charlie???

TIA!
