Quick Question - Tomorrow morning I'm going to look at a 123 that is for sale in my area. This will be the first Cub Cadet that I will have ever bought since I inherited my 122 from my great grandpa. I also have never worked on/used a hydro CC before, so I am wondering if there is anything I should be looking for to know if its a good buy or not.

Anything will help because I have no experience with Hydro's

Thanks
Jacob G

As far as old hydros go, you can't beat the 123!
It's got by far the best/smoothest hydro controls, and is a great all around tractor.
IMHO,
If it runs, doesn't smoke real bad and doesn't mark it's territory to bad, and the price is right, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, LOL

Next to the 147, it's just a good machine.

Jacob:
The 123: (Introduced hydrostatic drive to the IH Cub Cadet line of garden tractors in 1966).

Will it start? If so, it should move smoothly between forward and reverse with no funny noises. If not you may get a heck of a deal - scrap prices are down. (It weighs about 700 pounds).

Wheel weights, headlights, a hydraulic pump and sleeve hitch are big plusses. The 123 would make a perfect mate to your 122. I hope you let us know how things go tomorrow.

I've seen the tiger stripes before but not the leopard print, got any more pics of the leopard print one

A nice seat is a plus also Frank! No springs like the 127 and others have.

So I talked to the seller of the 123 tonite, and he said that the engine has been rebuilt and runs good, but that the tractor won't move. He said that he went through the transmission and everything looked good, but the tractor just won't move. I'm not sure if he means that the rear wheels are locked up and it wont roll even if you push it, or if it just won't move when the engine is running.

Hopefully I will be able to tell a little more once I actually see the tractor.

Thanks

If you jack it up and the wheels won't turn, RUN!!!! LOL
Also make sure that the relief valves are working or at least pushed down all the way.
If you can push it or jack it up and the rear wheels turn.
I'm betting that there's a sheared spirol pin, which is an easy fix!

Does the 123 share the same solid pin up front at the engine cup like the 129?

Thanks guys. I found the archive.

I was looking for the picture that Louis Palma posted of the QL lubricating bushing that goes behind the throw out bearing. The bushing ID is chamfered on one end. Do you know which way it goes on the shaft? Chamfer towards the T/O bearing or chamfer toward the spring?

Louis, is there a zerk on your bushing? Which way is it pointed? Towards the chamfer or away?
