Happy New Year to all. The first day of the New Year is almost over already. Figured I'd start the New Year off right and got busy around the house doing some small projects that I've been putting off.

No, it got hot under the spark plug and melted off some of the AL on the top edge, down into the first ring groove. Not horrible, but not one I'm putting back in either.

It was running when I dove into it, I was just going to fix the ignition module and leak, but the leak meant resealing the case, so I tore it down.

More than I was planning, but better than oil everywhere and ignition that cuts out when hot.....

Steve.

If you haven't done so already, make sure you measure and stake the the governor gear shaft in the correct location. They are known to back out and then the the gear will fall off into to case.

Good morning. I have been tinkering with my 149 timing issues and was wondering what spark plug wire many of you use so as to trigger a magnetic pick-up timing light. I am also wondering which of the two available regulators is the most reliable. My bigger work tractors get a delco alternator for fast charging and no point maintenance.

I stake them with a 1/8" roll pin......but thanks for the reminder.

Has anyone ever used the Super lug tires by Deestone before ? I can get a set for $ 98 plus $20 in shipping for brand new tires. They are a 6 ply tire. Thoughts ...?

Steve, can you post a picture of that staked governor shaft when your done, (either here or over in the CCC forum)? I'd like to see how it's supposed to be done.

Amy, they look just like Carlise Super Lugs, which perform great in my opinion. They may use cheaper rubber to price them so low. But for that price, I'd grab them.

Amy, the Deestones I have seen tend to be smaller in width and hieght then Firestones or Carlyle,
ie:less rubber,less cost.

Happy New Year!
OK, back the the notches. I checked one of my 70s out today and again no notches. I know we've had a few good guesses to why they are there, but why? I just think it's weird

Big Steve,

Ignition that cuts out when hot? I have the same issue with a Mag18. does that mean I need a new coil assembly? Just had this problem the second time today. runs great until it is turned off and heat soaks, then it will not start and has not spark. Leave it to cool off and it starts..........WTH???
