Tried to start the 782 last fall and turned over a few times and locked up. Found the culprit. I hate those dirty little SOB's. I could not turn it with a pipe wrench on driveshaft so I pulled the motor.

Hey guys, my 126 won't turn over this morning, when I turn the key all I hear is a clicking noise from the solenoid, it clicks once and that's it, I tried jumping it but I still get the one click, what steps should I take? Thanks

Got a used hydro unit in good condition and cleaning it up. It looks like the trunnion shaft will pull all the way through, does it? Will the insides fall apart if that shaft pulls out? I would think so, but I don't know. This is kind of a cool learning experience, I may up up liking hydros better than GD's! (Also had to switch to 16 oz cans ;-)

Nate,

I see where their favorite place is to pee!!!

An update on my 126 not turning over, I replaced my starter generator and it turned over and started right up. I got the starter generator off of my 100, it's nice to have another old cub for diagnosing problems.

Ed, thank you. I started this with the manual and it looks like page 2-48 shows the hydro needs to be disassembled in order to remove the trunnion shaft. I was hoping to pull it through, but there are many parts and seals that would fall in and out. Not sure I want to disassemble everything. Thanks again.

George- If you decide to take it apart read the part about the pins through the swash plate carefully. If you follow the directions exactly it'll come apart easily but you have to drive the pins to just the right depth.

What numbers are what on the hydro tag? One tag is mounted and the other is bolted on the top. (Argh, iPhone wont resize pic, maybe later.)

Well, some days just don't go like you want them to. I tried to mow the lawn today. Made 2 rounds and the throw-out bearing decided to go on the 106. No problem, jump on the 1650 to finish. Get half done and it bogs down and quits. Got it started but had a very suspicious whistle coming from the left front of the engine. It has no power but got it to the shed for further investigation tomorrow night. Sounds like either the head gasket, the head, or both. Time to swap a different engine in the 129 and get it back running.

I apparently did not notice a loose bolt in the top of my spindle on my 42" deck. By the time I noticed, the bolt was long gone, and the pulley was lying in the center of the deck. Looking for opinions, is this keyway too far gone to just put a new key into and bolt it up tight? The pulley keyway looks better than this does.

Good morning, here is the pic of my two hydro tags. Not sure what the numbers mean, and I assume the units are exchangeable, that's really the big question. Also, I should replace my hydro O-rings. What makes these O-rings so expensive? I bought one locally for a quarter and now I'm thinking there must be something more to this...but I need at least eight at $3 each. Thanks.

George L,

The top number on the two tags is the unique IH assigned part number for the hydro pump assembly. I believe the middle numbers are the Sunstrand model numbers. As you can see the numbers are different so the pumps are not exactly the same. Marlin H. would know for certain and be able to explain the differences in the pumps as well as what the bottom line of letters/numbers means. Are these ported or non-ported pumps?

It could be one pump was made later and incorporated design improvements. For example, bigger trunnion shaft seals and auto-dump valves were implemented on late Quietline and 82 Series production which were possibly significant enough changes resulting in a part number/model number roll.

Thanks Ron, that's what I'm hoping to identify as I've already started ordering parts for 40728 on the bottom. That one has manual relief valves and I'm hoping I can simply pull them out and drop in self adjusting valves.

Kevin L.-

If you are intent on saving that one, you might have another keyway cut opposite that one. Unless you have a mill, it's probably cheaper to just get another used spindle shaft.

I think I'm going to give these a shot and see how well they work.
