Digger-- Any idea what the 'going rate' for a working one is? Friend of mine has a working IH fridge in his garage, but we can't seem to come to terms!

I bought a 72 to mow my yard from a friend. Then bought a 1450 to go with a larger deck and hydro. Sold the 72 to my father (his second). Then bought another 72 for my son that was three at the time.(my wife even thought it was a good idea) My father bought his first, a 122, for parts when we pulled 30ci's several years ago. My father has 5 now, so he gave me the one that he took apart and hung on the wall for me to make a puller out of.

It is possibly definable as an illness??? In fact this morning, I contemplated selling my complete cowboy action gun set for a 125???? WHEW!! that was close! :)

"I never really meant to start a collection"

Me neither.

Does 18 tractors make a collection?

Travis- Guess we should have looked at your site for the answer! WE knew what me meant if nothing else..

DAN, DIGGER - Get out there and help that Guy lift that IH Fridge..... Those things weigh a TON! I used the loader to unload Mine! Mine had sat in a dairy barn too long and I was scared of the compressor & wiring so I cut the cord to the compressor.... BUT THE LIGHT STILL WORKS! It even had all the pans, shelves, drawers, etc. in it still. Makes a great oil/filter/grease storage cabinet.

Denny,
That's me liftin that sucker up the side of the movin van!!!!!!!
When we got there and he got up in the van, he says, I can't help ya much from up here!

NO S_ _T Buddy!!!!!!!!!

Dan C,
Good one's are goin for 300 all day long.

I got the front PTO clutch rebuilt and ready to install. Waiting for the bearing to finish that up.

Questions while I wait:

What is recommended for oil in the transmission/differential? The manual refers to IH products that are not easily available. My tractor is a 128, doesn't have a rear PTO or hydraulics of any kind.

The gears grind when I shift. My guess is that the clutch isn't releasing completely (familiar with this from old brit motorcycles). Any suggestions as to what to do would be appreciated.

Thanks

Zimm

According to the Case/IH dealer locator it's only 49.2 miles to a dealer in Middletown, DE.

Then again, most of us have no problems driving for hours and hours to get parts...

Have you thought of calling one of our dealer sponsors and having them ship the Hy-Tran to you? Doesn't get much easier than that...

Tom-She likes it,even though she said "where did you get THAT monstrosity"? Thanks for a one-of-a-kind tractor, she sure is a beauty!

Kevin -

Now the question is - will you get over your fear of shows or is it destined to hide in your garage?

There might be an interesting tractor at the WFM plow day this weekend. A guy that came to pick up a blower today said his uncle has a prototype Cub Cadet with a huge Onan engine in it from the early 70's. I all but begged him to bring it. He lives 20 miles from the plow site!!!

The pilot bushing is most likely dirty/dragging and or the throw out bearing is headed south. You can polish the ID of the pilot bushing with a little 220 paper on a dowel rod (after you pull the clutch) and the TO bearing should be nice and free.

If getting HyTran is that big of an issue, run JD Hy-Guard, or F&F hyd/trans fluid in it. Older manuals even recommended 30 wt. oil (a good quality engien oil would probably be fine too).

One thing about Hy-Tran, CASE const. dealers carry it (just in yellow pails) so you might Have a source much closer than you think.....check the local heavy equipment dealer listings.

Bryan.....Dunham will cut it up for pieces parts and have it on ebay faster than Travis can repo his own stuff!!!

Bryan-I guess I'll have to suck it up and just wear my steel toed asskickers for the dumb-ass parent or snot-nosed little brats that think they should climb all over machines and bend parts on them because the machines are BEHIND the ropes....

Can anyone list the different steering column lengths, or be able to list models from shortest to longest. I know that some are longer than others.

Picked up a 1250 the other day. The guy told me “It doesn’t smoke”; he forgot to add “unless it’s running”! Oh well, the price was right and I’ve got a Jim Chabot/Hydro Harry rebuilt 14 horse just waiting for a home. Now if I can get the time to make the swap…
I’ll try to get some pictures of it over the next couple of days.

JL-- I know that the steering column/shaft out of a 70/100 is roughly 4-6" longer than one out of an Orig., best I can remember...

All the comments about "I never really meant to start a collection" make me think of the trade I put together for my 10hp Original. I got the CC (& I think 3 orig. issue manuals for it) & an old hand crank forge for a $150 jon boat. The Cub was UGLY, but oil change & few minor adjustments here & there & I cut approximately 5 acres of grass that same day w/ it!

And to think, the PO was going to make a go-cart out of it for his daughters!

Needless to say, since my first exposure to IH CCs, I'M HOOKED!

Quick question for the group-- I have what I believe to be part of a model 70 in pieces around my garage. I don't have the grille or hood to identify. According to guy I traded w/, it had a 7hp in tractor, which I have part of.
How to identify? I know this has prolly been covered, but, thanks for your patience!

Thanks,
DanC
