This 3206 MTD/ Cub Cadet has the CH22 spec # 76516 Kohler in it. I smelled that smell you smell when wires have burned. It seemed to come from the fan shroud. Then there was no current to the fuel solenoid. After a day of not wanting to pull the engine, I pulled the engine yesterday and found that wire in the loom had shorted out at the clamp at the back of the engine (inside the blower housing). That wire had a splice (factory) with two diodes and those two wires ran back to the connector that goes into the main wiring harness of the tractor. Sorry to be so long winded, but now I'm in need of those two diodes and kohler don't show them in the diagrams, any ideas?
Thanks again,
RGM

Oak, you're a wealth of information! Thank you for this. I still don't understand why these would be needed for these circuits. I'll give it a try, sure beats $70.00 or so for a harness.

I used some from Radio Shack on my 3165. They were rated at 1.5 amps/1000 volts. I think they were around $4. Make sure you install them in the proper direction and use heat shrink tubing to insulate them.

I'm pretty sure you'll never need any more if buy a pack of these.

Oak, I found out from a Kohler Senior Service Specialist, that since that engine came equipped with the diodes, they have now discovered the diodes were not even necessary and they have been eliminated all together. However, they did have a diode kit available: Repair Diode Kit #25 755 31-S (5 Amp 800 PIV Diode) Thought I would share this with all.
