Hello, just picked up what I believe is a 1961 International Cub Cadet this morning. Serial number is 14857. It has a KS181 Kohler motor.

I plan to restore it, or at least make it a good running and working machine, and keep it for personal use, but Im in process of finishing up a Wheelhorse project currently. So this will be sitting for a few months. I did weld one of the fender brackets back on when I got home, and did a quick pressure washing.

Anyways, I think I found the relevant manuals already, but Im curious as to what they actually called this model. And if it would harm the value to make functionality improvements during the restoration process.

It is the first cub cadet made. It is called an original, or "O".
It won't hurt the value to take the non-original stuff off. I posted more on your other thread.

Question. When I signed up, I was forced to use my first and last name as a user. Which is fine, but how is it that so many other users have random non-actual names?

Many of the older people that signed up before the forum was sold a while back did the full name thing. When that happened, they had an open policy on registration. The Cub world is a tight knit group of great people and the full name helps everyone know EXACTLY who they are dealing with and also keeps the scammer somewhat at bay. So they agreed to go back to the old way of doing things.
👍

Welcome Aboard, nice to see you here and with a great tractor. It was actually called the "Cub Cadet". There wasn't a "Model" name except Cub Cadet, it was this site that later coined the term "Original" as the model. The fella that started this site originally had an "Original" and as the site grew it became clunky when all the tractors were "Cub Cadet"... So we started calling it the original, 'cause that is what it was! So say thanks to Ranger Buck! LOL..

Hello David, welcome to the forum. Will you keep us posted on the restore plan?

Most likely. And Im sure I’ll be around plenty for insight when I start the project.

Just finished the deck restoration on my wheelhorse B80. Plow reassembly planned for this afternoon.

Then I need to complete the teardown on the tractor, and internal inspection/repair of the motor, and trans.

Attached are some pics, likely out of order.

That's looking pretty good. Are you into woodworking?:)

MIKE FRADE- Actually, I remember "The Reverend" having an issue with people calling the 1961 to 1963 vintage Cub Cadets an "Original". I was scolded rather harshly I thought, and NEVER since then have I referred to them as an "Original" again. AT least here, I might call them an Original on the Red Power site.
Typing this post makes me think how much this forum has changed over the years. Bob and Bryan both gone, plus several others have passed on, like the Canadian, Dan Tanner I think his name was. I still get a private e-mail from people that the only connection I've had with them were this forum. Then there's Wyatt Compton. Wyatt and my son are having a contest to see who can get put in Facebook Jail the most. You would think they were related! I met Wyatt at Blunier's Plow Day #1. Wyatt had to move a while after the plow day, I stored EVERY piece of Cubby stuff he had, 3 tractors, plow, tiller, cart, think there was a snow blower. PLUS His "Wheatland" Cub started in my shop. And Wyatt USED the first "Tire BONG" He built in my shop. We still e-mail each other a time or two a month. These little tractors have BUILT lots of great friendships!

Calling the first Cubs originals is probably no different than referring to Corvettes as C1, C2, C3, etc. I’ve seen original used widely elsewhere before joining this site/“CCommunity.”

Calling them an O, however, was something I first heard here, and could easily be confused with 0 (as in zero).

Whatever we call ‘em, I think what really matters is the reverence we share for these great machines and the Cubtherhood we build through this site: knowledge base, helpfulness, discourse, admiration, mentorship, laughs, etc.

Keep up the good work, fellas, and RiP to the boys not with us anymore.

iHCC pride! -C3

Welcome - You can go into your profile and change your user-name. I just did mine recently to remove mu inadvertently included last name.

Not a bit secrecy thing but it limits the returns for folk with ill intent when they perform a simple name search on the internets.

Yes, but the point was "we" coined the term here, I had all but forgotten The Rev! LOL. And so many others have come and gone! I used to have a lot of fun with Jim Steele.. who was shamed and harrassed even after all he did for us with reporting the Sept 11 BS. I haven't talked to Wyatt in ages! And there was another guy who helped me score 2 originals while I lived in New Mexico - I've forgotten his name now... oops. And then I did get to meet / hangout with Bryan M., Dan (with his crawler) and Jim Chabot plus some others at a Red Power Roundup in Illinois 98 or 99 I think it was. Or Paul Funk and Paul Bell when I lived in Southern Indiana, we drove up to Northern IN to meet the Chestnut family, in a snowstorm! LOL. Yes, this place has helped make many friends. Do you remember this place as a "Bulletin Board"? Just white text on a blue screen LOL.. The good old days.
