Was working the 1512 tonight and noticed some exhaust coming out around the heat shield. Removed the shields and found multiple cracks on the end of the muffler.

Before breaking the welder out I wanted to see if anyone has repaired one of these mufflers? Seems like pretty thick metal as mufflers go.

Seems like aftermarket mufflers are available.

I welded up multiple cracks in my 1430 muffler (not nearly as thick as your muffler)... and fabricated a sheet metal bottom. It was like welding to tin-foil, but that muffler is pretty much NLA ($200+ for just the left one)
Now it sounds fine, and should last as long as the original (27 years so far).

I had mine welded by a friend at his offroad truck shop. I didn't feel confident trying to stick weld it. It's held up well over the years, maybe like five now. Had local exhaust shop make a little turn down exhaust pipe, I also run mine in the vertical "tractor" orientation. Not horizontal, it got caught on to many things.

Thanks for your help. I ended up ordering a after market one from CC Specialties along with some other cub parts. Will try welding the old one just as a backup if I have a run in with a tree or large branch. :cubwinker:
