I need some guidance from someone that has done this. I already have a 1450 which has the donor rear. Is this just a disassemble - swap case - reassemble operation?

The plan was to get two 4x8 sheets of plywood dis assemble the 1450 rear diff layout all parts in order. Same for the 1512. Once laid out swap cases (paint 1450 case black) and reassemble both.

Any thouhts, pitfalls?

Is your 1450 rear end external or internal brakes. That will make a huge difference whether you can do it.

I have a 1650 rear end in my 782. I had a 147 rear end in my 782D. The internal brake thing does not matter. I ran externals on my 782D and internal on my 782. You just change the brake rod and lose the external brakes. Now.. if I remember right the cast iron rear end from the 147 was taller and the fuel tank was tight. Just make sure your fuel lines are free and not pinched and you should be fine. JMHO
