I need some help. I have a blade for my 122 that I have never installed on it. I bought it after I puchased the tractor. I thought I had the correct subframe for my tractor - bolt on instead of quick attach. I removed the mule drive bracket and started to bolt it on. It doesnt fit-see pics. Do I have the wrong bracket? The blade set up instructions are not much help. I am thinking of fabricating a bracket. Please advise! Thanks, John

Put the bracket for the mule drive back on minus the pulley set up and then use the second hole from the bottom to put on the sub frame.

Thanks for the help. I had tried reusing the mule drive bracket at first, but used a different hole and that didn't work. Using your advice, after some prying, using a jack and redrilling a hole just a bit, it is together! The subframe was bent and misaligned. After trading with a friend, my first subframe was a wide frame quick attach, obviously not right, thought this one was correct but I think it was originally designed for the 70/100. I need to cut the footrest per the manual and make a longer lift arm, but it is closer to moving some dirt!

John - hope to catch you before you go hacking up your 122. If you couldn't get the blade to fit and work correctly following what Lewis P said then yes, your sub-frame may have been bent/twisted a little. But please don't go cutting your footrest.
The other method to attach your blade is using what I call "frame extenders" and the parts list calls them "extension braces". They are No. 19 in the following parts diagram. You need 2 of them (one for each side of the frame). You can probably make them out of flat stock steel. I don't recall the exact dimensions but it wasn't that long ago that someone else was in a situation similar to yours, and we got someone to post the dimensions. I believe they are 3/8" flat stock steel, about 5" long, and you have to drill 3 holes.
Also, I believe you need the bracket that mounts on the bar under the footrest. There should be pictures on this Forum of what it looks like. It's Part No. 21 in the diagram.
If you study this parts diagram (the section titled 1963-1967) it will probably help you alot.

Thanks Harry, I have part 21 lift arm bracket but I think I will still have to modify the footrest see pic from manual. I dont see a way to have clearance for the subframe arms and the lift bracket while mounting the footrest without trimming it. The frame extenders would be much better then using the mule frame bracket. I will check it out. Please give me your thoughts on the footrest.

After looking at the previous thread, I am not sure the advantage of the frame extenders. It showed using the mule drive bracket as well. It would be a cleaner install but I am not concerned about that. More interested in help with the footrest question on the 122. Thanks
 
Glad I could help, that lift frame bracket is not OEM, home made jobby, I never had to alter the foot rest on a 122 to install a blade. The bracket on the blade looks like a wide frame one. Your lift bracket should look like this one. You do not need the mule drive bracket to use the extenders. Here are the measurements to make the brackets that David made. The bracket is 3/8" thick.

I meant the bracket on the blade itself like the picture you sent. I can't tell the difference. Also, I have 2 different lift arm brackets. I wonder if either is correct for my 122 and this blade setup that I am trying to figure out.

On the 122 I had, it used the bottom lift arm in your photo.

I suggest buying the 6’ long rod to make the lift rod and using yer new-to-you torch set to bend the new lift arm outta the middle of it, so you have some leverage to bend with.

The folded end version slips right into place instead of having to slide over the end of the shaft that it pivots around.
 
John - as David S said, I to never had to cut the foot rest on a 122.

Also, in my view, using the frame extenders makes the blade mount just a little more beefy instead of using the mule drive bracket. It might just be me, but then you also don't have to worry about twisting up your mule drive bracket if you're ramming something with the blade.
 
I have found previous owner non standard repairs everywhere I have touched on my IH projects lately. I will yry again with the folded arm so the footrest doesn't have to be removed. The current arm while not IH us very beefy and looks nice. Not sure where it came from. Hot these days to work ...
Another example of p.o. repair on a 60 RER on an extended mower deck I refurbished. Extended the chute. I left it since I have another one. See how it works

I remember going to an auction when I was shopping for my first Cub Cadet as an adult, and being shocked by the non-standard things that were done to the three Cub Cadets they had. There was a Murray there too, and IT was the deal of the day...

It can be a puzzler trying to fit that folded version where it needs to go.

Nice Oxy-Acetylene setup.

Update - after a little heat and hammer - I got the subframe straight. Tried to use the IH lift arm bracket, but the U bolt wasn't wide enough to fit over the metal shield on my lift arm. Maybe the lift arm is not original? Went back to the bracket that came with it. I also extended the lift rod 4 inches by welding in a 3/8 x 6 pipe nipple. Don't laugh it worked and I can always make another sometime. I ended up not having to modify the footrest. Still amazed how heavy and well built these old cubs are!
