Yes. Check grounds, all of them. you'll slowly boil the battery dry if allowed to continue.
I'd think the regulator isn't cycling and it needs the ground circuit for control. Just a guess from here.
 
I believe there is a procedure for adjusting the voltage regulator somewhere in the service manual. I'm sure someone on the forum has it.
 
This tractor is a recent addition……. Older than anything I have ever owned

Previous owner made a bit of a weight rack on the rear at the hitch and moved the battery back there and put a larger battery there. Looks like it belongs in a pickup

I just found this! I had no idea the voltage could be adjusted. first I will check grounding then adjust if necessary

Bad grounds are a very common problem; check the wiring as well as the ground connections. I have seen some badly oxidized wire under the insulators. 16+ volts will boil out the battery. Good luck.
