Starting to feel guilty. Engine swap

Today I'm going to start up Tug (my 782) drive it behind my barn, disconnect the Snow plow, drive it back up here just to shut off the KT17 for the last time. I have an opposed twin that doesn't smoke, doesn't leak. It has no Points or Condenser. It starts like a dream in below freezing Temps...

782 engine swap, wiring sanity check

The original kt17 needed 12v to the coil for the On/Off. New to me engine has a magneto setup so Now the On/Off function will be nothing electrical to Run but the Off will be Shorting that coil to Ground. Correct?

Mating Driveshaft to none standard engine

What have you folks done to mate a stock Driveshaft to an engine you swapped in? Are the Crank ends ( on front fan end) made to accept additional mountings? The K17 Gen 1 is mounted 'backwards' in the 782. In order to get rotation correct, I have to do the same with new engine. I'm not familiar...

    K17 dipstick tube.

The dipstick tube, going into the block, how is it sealed?

782, K17 1st Gen. Keeping the covers off.

My use with Tug is winter snow plowing and driving it half speed, basically load free. No super slow speed/ high RPM garden work where air circulation is critical. With that in mind, does this K17 really need all those covers? Is this Kohler engine in anything else where it is only cooled...

Why are there so many Models?

Why did Cub make so many models? I can understand different attachment options and tire style, hydraulic lift 's manual, but why have so many different engines within, basically the same metal body and frame?

    '85 782 carb # for original K17

Tug kind of let me down today. It ran great all winter and fine a week ago. This morning, a little hard starting, had to fiddle with the Choke which I never have to do. Even after it was warm, it just wasn't happy. I nursed it along to accomplish what I needed. Just wondering, before I...

    Beat to death discussion.. Tires

A 2ply Good-Year Soft track, Terra tire is what the sidewall says. 23x10.5x12. These were on the 782 8 years ago when I acquired it. The sidewalls were cracking back then so I tubed them. Otherwise they suit my needs. Looking at reviews on $80ish replacements, and they are all over the...

Ever feel sorry for running it hard?

The last 3 days I ran Tug hard. Raked out 1000s of lbs of rock that I trailered up hill, about 400 feet to dump around the backside of my pond. Also used Tug to drag many small trees several hundred feet to my brush pile. Some of the loads up the hill had the tractor jumping a bit on the tire...

    Kirks transdenser K17 true accounts

I'm sure this has been discussed many times. The search engine doesn't work on the phone I'm on so, here I am asking instead of reading. Any personal accounts of a " oh man, it starts so much better" experience? I don't doubt it helps the life of points, I don't doubt it delivers a better...

Starting your cub in COLD weather.

Unfortunately, my cub sits under cover but sees well below freezing most of our 6 month winter. It is way unhappy starting on these temps. Can't blame. I use thinner oil, the sin does catch it in the morning which helps. The bottom line is, do you have to crank and crank your 2 cylinder...

    Radiator fitment in 782

Excuse my ignorance. Can I assume the 782D has a front radiator? Looking at a thread of a 1512, I see a front radiator, is the 1512 and 782 physically the same? Cut to the chase: I have a Kabota 3 cylinder gas at my disposal. I'm kicking around putting that engine in to replace my K17. Big...

782 How is Engine grounded to Chassis?

Still chasing down my slow crank issue seen here..https://www.ihcubcadet.com/forum/messages/22774/314937.html?1495544712 I am trouble shooting it down to be likely the Starter but before the major job of pulling it I am exhausting all options. The wiring from key to Solenoid to starter is a few...

Starter engages but slow to crank

HI folks.K17 engine. Replaced the Battery a few months back. Old battery was 3 years old and finally quit late Winter. 3 years ago I deleted the key and put in a push button to energize the relay. It's been working fine. What is happening is I Push to start the engine and I hear the starter kick...

    Starter Solenoid. Quick to fail

When I first got the 782, there were many small things wrong. A biggy was; it was missing about 50% of the Harness. It had just enough cut and taped wires to Start the Engine. Not even the charging system was wired. The previous owner had a screw driver to jump out the Starter Solenoid. This...

Increase hole size on Lift Assembly Cam

I know you folks use a different name for this lift assembly on the Hydraulic Lift . Your vernacular escapes me. CubCadet 'Parts look-up' just call it a Lift Assembly. On the Cam section of this assembly where you put the Lifting rod for the Plow I have two holes. One is about 1/2" and the...

    Back up lights/rear floods

Wondering what you folks have done about getting enough light behind you to plow in the night. Seems like it always snows at night and I gotta get to work early. The old Cubs have the seats high so hiding one under there is nice. For the later cubs (782) Putting lights on the rear fenders I...

    Archive through January 03, 2014

Hey hey.. 3:30 this morning.. got to try out the Cub. Snow started heavy last night so we got up early to get the driveway cleared and get ourselves off to Work (wife had to be in at 6:00) This was my maiden voyage pushing snow with Tug. I absolutely need to change the trani/hydraulic oil. Tug...
