    1711 carburetor

Here's a pic of my carb. Besides "Walbro" being cast into the side of it, I also found "WHC". Let me know what you guys think.

I'll try to get a photo soon, Matt. Thanks.

    1711 carburetor

I was wrong guys. I did find Walbro cast into the side of it. Can't figure out why it only has 2 adjusting screws. All schematics I have seen show 3.

    1711 carburetor

Thanks, Charlie. I had already looked at the parts schematic, but still couldn't come to a conclusion. My carb only has 2 adjusting screws. I don't think it has any writing on the side.

    1711 carburetor

I'm not sure whether I have a Kohler or Walbro carb on my 1711. Anyone???

    1711 won't start

Thanks, Michael. would that keep the engine from starting at all? It seems as though it's not getting fire, but I've already checked for that.

    1711 won't start

I fired up the 1711 for the first time since last Fall. It smoked a little, as usual. This time the smoke didn't clear. It eventually died. I couldn't get it to start again. Coil is providing plenty of fire. I noticed the oil level rose and smells like gas. Gas seems to be leaking out of the...

    System discharging

Thanks for that information Jeremiah. That's a lot to take in and a lot of work involved. So is the voltage regulator on the flywheel? Also, the system only shows discharge when I kick in the PTO. Anything behind that?

    System discharging

Hi all. Been a while since I've been on. I have a 1711 that the ammeter is showing it is discharging while the tractor is running. I'm not very good with electrical systems, so I sure could use some help. The battery is brand new.

    Just purchased a 1711

Paul - I have a 1711 also. Bought it used 4 years ago. It had 945 hours on it and I paid around $1,100. They were produced in 1985 only. The Kohler Series II has its issues. I've had some problems, but overall I love mine. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Reed valve???

Is another word for this "umbrella valve" or are they two separate parts?

    Reed valve???

What is a reed valve and where can I find it on my Kohler 17 HP Series II?

    Serious oil leak

I think I found out why I lost the first oil seal to begin with. When I take off the oil fill cap, it's almost like another exhaust. You can hear the pressure coming out. I think this is more than just the crankcase breather, which I believe is tied into the carb. breather assembly through a...

Jim - Which breather are you referring to?

    Serious oil leak

I thought it was a worse scenario, but it turned out to be the rear crankshaft seal that was leaking. It must have vibrated out of place in order for it to have leaked as quickly as it did. The tractor is all back together and running well, without leaking a drop of oil.

    Oil seal replacement

I got the oil seal out. It was much easier than it looked or I expected. All it took was the slight twist of a screwdriver.

    Oil seal replacement

I already have the flywheel and magneto off, but it does not look like it can be removed from outside the engine. I have replaced oil seals in car engines, but they didn't look like this one.

    Oil seal replacement

Anyone had any experience in replacing the rear main oil seal on a KT17 Series II engine? It seems the seal is an internal one, but I could be wrong. Any input would be appreciated.

    Serious oil leak

OK. I pulled the KT 17 II from my 1711, cleaned off all the grease, but have yet to find where the oil leak is. No cracks in the crankcase or heads. The rear engine shield did have a lot of grease caked on he inside of it. I cannot tell if the rear seal is bad or not. I now have the engine...

    Serious oil leak

I pulled off several of the engine covers, but will need disconect the driveshaft, pull the engine and take off the rear cover to see what is going on. Anyone have an idea what this could be? I had a full crankcase of oil before I started mowing and about 2 hours later, it's practically empty...
