    1864 CH18S-62509 Top End Advice Needed

    Replacing head gaskets and valves in my CH18S and notice that the parts lists indicate a type A and type B head. How can I tell which type I have? Which part # is correct for a fully assembled heads with valves, springs, etc already installed?

    1864 ch18 removal

    The engine is mounted on a plate which is held to the frame with 6 bolts, heads under the frame. Much easier to remove the plate from the frame than the engine from the plate.

    This is the drive hub from the engine on a 1997 1874. When I took it apart it was covered in grease, and I didn't notice the groove in the splined center section. Does that groove have to be facing the engine, hydro, or doesn't it matter?
