Newly rebuilt K321 with Cub Cadet and Helson mufflers

While in process of testing newly rebuilt K321 for my second CC149, I had measured sound pressure levels (3 feet away) using two different mufflers - CC149 factory muffler and Nelson muffler. As expected Nelson muffler produced around half the sound level (for tech savvy -5.5dB). Although a...

    Starter generator

"L" terminal on newer VRs is for "Load". It may not be connected in your case. One on the back is GEN terminal - its the one you connect to "A" - armature terminal of S/G.

    Ignition condenser.

You can Google “ K-Series Static Ignition Timing”. While slowly rotating crank shaft you need to catch the moment when points go open by monitoring ohm-meter resistance between them. Correct timing will be when “SP” or “S” mark on the flywheel lines up with line-marker (next to viewing window...

    Ignition condenser.

Talking about non-OEM substitutes. I just completed static timing adjustments on my newly rebuilt K321 and tested non-OEM beaker points and real Kohler part. Static adjusted timing resulted in exact 0.020 gap on Kohler. Non-OEM gap was as measured 0.017. Same plunger. That means if you use...

    Ignition condenser.

Yo may also double check if condenser clip is reliably grounded to the engine. Ignition coil bracket is typical place for this. Just make sure there is bare metal underneath and no corrosion or paint.

Starting your cub in COLD weather.

Just curious. Is there any reason not to use starting fluids as long as you can get some slow cranking? In any case It works on my 149.

    Eggnog or moisture

What tkhoffman said. I normally put 2 layers of tarp underneath of hard-pack gravel. In addition, leaving 8-10” of a gap at the ground level assures no condensation at any time. BTW solid plastic pallets for the floor make it even better.

    rearend gasket replacement

Here is (an example) what should help you with less than "perfectly-flat" cover: Permatex 82194 Ultra Grey Rigid High-Torque RTV Silicone. Their term "Rigid" is relative though. The silicone still remains flexible when cured.
