Finally able to order the 23 hp Vanguard from SEW. Found a certified mechanic to do the swap for me at a very reasonable price. Will post again when the job is done.

    1811 slung a rod

Update. I've just about decided to switch the old engine out with a 23 hp Vanguard. I'm hearing it's a pretty straightforward switch. Any ideas or experiences with this out there?

    1811 slung a rod

Found me an engine block on ebay. I'm going to try replacing that instead of the whole engine.

Trust me, it's worth it. Mine is a four digit also. Still have to get new wheels and tires and get the engine going.

Alabama. A little too far. I'm going to start looking but won't be able to afford to get anything done for a while.

    1811 slung a rod

It had 1290 hours on it. I bought it less than a year ago and don't know much of any history on it. I was religious about the oil and trans fluid. I don't know how it was treated before I got it.

    1811 slung a rod

A clunk and a jerk and then smoke. It was a bad sound. I knew immediately what it was. I said a few colorful words and then had to apologize to the preacher's wife that lives next door that heard the whole thing.

What size command engine did you use? I would have to get someone to change it out for me. There's no way I would attempt it. Other than the engine, my 1811 is in great shape.

    Back in the saddle

I wanted to update the original restoration project. I'm pretty much at a stand still for now especially with the engine. I did install the mowing deck today. Still need new tires and wheels and lots of other little things for the engine.

    Back in the saddle

So the Cub Cadet dealer basically said their mechanics would not work on the K161S engine for the original I'm restoring. Looks like I will be working on the engine myself.😬 The picture attached is an image of the engine after I took the head off. Looks rough. Any and all suggestions would be...

Seafoam.... to use or not to use, that is the question.

I've seen several threads on here that mention the use of Seafoam. What is the general consensus about using it in a cub cadet? Speaking from an 1811 owner. Is it worth it? Will it damage anything?

I now the manager pretty well at the shop. He seemed excited about helping me restore the old girl. Will know in the next couple of weeks what all can be done for it.

    Back in the saddle

Quick update: I took the engine to the local cub cadet dealer today to let them assess it and see if it is worth saving. Keeping my fingers crossed.
