149 with 44” deck cutting heights

Guys I wanted to let you know I was able to get my 149 with 44 inch deck to a cutting high of 4 1/4 inches. I was able to do this by changing the solid lift link to a shorter one, and there was enough thread left on the adjustable lift link on the other side to level both sides of the deck...

    44C Gator Blades

I have new information regarding the 44” Gator blades. I told with Oregon and they do make a 15” Gator blade that is exact except the it has a 1/2” center hole instead of a 3/4”. So I will be buying those and enlarging the hole to 3/4”. This is a G3 blade so it doesn’t have the fusion tungsten...

    Model 149 with a 44” mowing deck

I’m going to check to see if I have the correct size lift links. Its total size is 3.5” I can lift the deck higher by hand easily. The other link is adjustable and I do have some threads left. I know these links come in different sizes. If I do have the correct link I can have the link...

    44C Gator Blades

Gary, that’s an idea of cutting down the 16” blades. I believe the blades are made of tungsten carbine, so I’ll have to get a diamond wheel for my grinder. And I’ll do my best to re-sharpen the old set with a diamond file. A regular file doesn’t work on the tungsten carbine cutting edge. I...

    Model 149 with a 44” mowing deck

I found the deck height in the manuals that stated a 4” height depending on deck and tire combination just like you did. It didn’t state which deck or tires you could achieve a 4 inch cutting height with ? I have been able to get 3.5/8” and that’s it. I decided not to mess with 50 year old...

    Model 149 with a 44” mowing deck

Thanks for your input guys. I contacted an old friend of mine who has a 129 with a 42” deck. With the manual lift he can easily extend beyond 4” cutting heights. I didn’t believe I could get past 3.5” but I hoping I was missing something. My last resort would be to exceed the tire pressures...

    Model 149 with a 44” mowing deck

Item 7 does have some wear where it rides on the rockshaft. Nothing compared to what I have seen on other cubs. The front forks look good. I’m not 100% certain the deck was made to reach 4.5” ? Can someone confirm that a 149 with a 44” deck is capable of 4.5”

Mike L. Glad to see others are aware of the great benefits of Daves PointsSaver. I like the LED feature that allows you to use the static method of setting the points. A feeler gauge is just that, a feel and everybodys is different. Even a timing light is not 100% accurate on these K series...
