    Paint

Judging by the 100 and 149 I stripped the paint off of, it appears as though IH may have used a yellow tinted primer.

Nice work David. I particularly like the rear diving board you’ve installed.

Mike P The light has never been in the way where it's at. I need to find a lower wattage bulb for it. Between the 55W bulb in it and the 2-35W headlights, the generator can't keep up at below half throttle. I may go with LED lights to lower the electrical demand. The rear light is wired into...

Mike Patterson I added a rear light to my 129 on a bracket that bolts to existing holes in the frame. PHOTO 1 PHOTO 2

Earl, When the engine is at TDC, the crankshaft keyways will be straight up. If you can see the setscrew access holes in the clutch basket pulley you should be able to set the engine at TDC without pulling the head.

Nice paint work Marty. Interesting idea with the mobile paint booth. I need to build a makeshift booth when I start painting my 100. A lot of surfaces in my garage ended up with overspray when I painted my 129.

The cone spacer should have a slot cut thru the side of it. That allows grease to get to both bearings from the zerk.

To add to what Ron said, make sure there is a spacer between the 2 bearings. It should be roughly 1/4" thick with a slot cut thru the side to allow grease to get to the bearings. Without it there, when you tighten the center bolt on top of the pully, it will preload the bearings and cause them...

Shultzie, Good idea on the clutch release pivot. I made something similar for my 100. Instead of the counterbored holes, I tapped them 1/4-20 from the back side and added a grease zerk on top of the block to lube the pivot pin. I replaced the pivot pin with a 3/8" shoulder bolt. I tightened...

All of the 149s have hydraulic lift. The 169s came with manual lift and could be converted to hydraulic lift by the dealer. If it has manual lift then it is a 169.

I modified a WF subframe to fit my 100. I cut it right behind the cross brace and swapped the sides and welded them back on. Now, instead of offsetting in, the rear legs offset out and the forks fit between the frame and foot rests. To attach the front, I made plates that slip over the QA pins...

Willam, You should be able to buy just the hood and dash stripes from MH. When I bought my 129 decals from them, the stripes were in a seperate bag from the other decals since all of the 1x9s share the other decals and the only difference is the hood stripes.

What's in your Toolbox: Rare & Unusual Tools

My friend said "Hey, I've got this old mitre saw you can have. It sounds like the bearings are bad. I never use it". The bearings are fine but the blade was very dull and sounded bad when I would try to cut with it. I put a new blade on and it cuts like a dream. I recently remodeled my kitchen...

What's in your Toolbox: Rare & Unusual Tools

It doesn't fit in my toolbox but it is definitely rare and unusual. This is my Elu miter/table saw. With the release of a pin it switches between a mitre saw and a table saw. I got it from a friend and he thought it was just a mitre saw...

The 23/10.5s say they are Made In USA but the 23/8.5 and 26/12/12 don't say. I find it hard to believe they would only make the one size in the USA. Maybe just a typo on Miller's site.

The newer Firestones are made in China as far as I know. The Carlisle TruPowers are made in USA. That swayed my decision toward the Carlisles.
