Having a problem with a k321 kohler flywheel. Worked with it for a couple of hours and no luck removing it. Used puller as tight as I could without breaking it, pry bar in back, and a big hammer. No luck so I heated it with a small propane torch for about 20 minutes and still no luck. Trying to decide what to do next. Anyone got a secret how to remove it?

sometime I've had to leave the puller tensioned overnight ,soak keyway best as possible then like said above smack the puller center bolt and usually pops ! some folks over torque them when installing and pull them on the taper tight as hell ! If you use heat try to keep it right above the keyway !
 
Are you sure the puller screw is only on the shaft? Looks like it is partially on the flywheel and that won't fly getting it off. If it does fly off be sure it has a soft pillow from the My Pillow Guy to land on.
 
Yes the puller screw is up high where the nut is still on the shaft. From the nut down to the flywheel there is a space of about 1/2 inch that the flywheel can pop back and not come all the way off. You can see the washer that is still on the shaft but not tight next to the flywheel. Thanks for the suggestion.

Years ago I hung around a local Yamaha dealer and would help out in the back room, a guy brought in a snow machine motor and said he could not get the inner clutch off ,it has a tapered shaft also, we broke a couple of Yamaha brand pullers trying to get it off, tried heat, spray oils etc., finally gave up, told the guy sorry and gave up. Well he heard of a old guy in town that new all the tricks, the guy warmed it up and melted bee's wax around the shaft and it came right off, still using the puller of course. Good Luck
 
I just took The flywheel off my k301 and it was a bear! I soaked in PB Blaster and when it popped…it POPPED off. Now I’m trying to get the pulley off the front without bending it and I’m having no luck. Any suggestions?
 
Today is another day. Let the flywheel soak over night, tried to tighten the puller a little more with a 12" long adjustable wrench, hit it with a hammer and still no luck. I thought about tapping out the flywheel for 1/2" screws and making a 1" thick heavy duty puller.
Last resort i used my 24" extension bar and a socket on the puller. Decided to bust puller or screws or get it off. Tighten the puller and could see the puller beginning to bend to the point that it would break if tightened any more. Picked up a hammer and smacked it on the outside and it finely popped off. Thanks for the replies to this post.
 
Are you talking about the basket pulley?
If so, make sure all set screws are out. After pto is removed, sand shaft until it is nice and shiny.
Take a brass punch so you won't damage it, and drive the pulley in a little. place the punch on the center collar so you won't bend the pulley.
Now you should see some more shiny where the pulley was. Sand the remaining crud off the shaft so it will be clean and shiny all the way to the pulley. Spray some pb on it, and it should slide off fairly easy.
 
You are worried about bending the front pulley??? You are not trying to take the PTO off along with the basket pulley are you? They are two separate pieces.
