My 106 had to be rewired many years ago. It would start & run great but would not charge the battery. At the time I done the rewire I didn’t have anything but the original harness to go by. Once I removed that original braided wrap practically all the wire was bare “green” copper as what used to be the insulation turned to dust & fell off. I replaced 1 wire at a time till I changed all wire. I soldered all terminals & sealed with heat shrink.

I honestly don’t know what kept it from shorting out & a fire!
 
Neil, we have to accept different tech when these old cubs were built,but a great many have lasted 50 plus yrs.We have to be aware they are on the edge if not all ready passed..They are a potential fire hazard.I did some research a few yrs ago..Thousands of garages and homes burned from fires starting in mowers.Mostly from dried grass and leaves but also shorted wires.Newer shorts are usually mouse damage...I have 3 old cubs that start/run fine but they are on the list of got to replace wires soon...
 
When looking for them, they are designed for side terminal GM car batteries. Minor massaging of the tractor's negative cable terminal will be required.
 
Yes I have to do a little modification but they sure work great on anything with a battery in it. I even use one on my cherry picker with a 12v winch on it. My only cub without it is my 61 pull start original.
 
I remove batteries from all my Cubs for long term storage & put 'em on a shelf in the heated shop so I can put the trickle charger on them once a month for a bit.

Biggest issue I have w/bat's is leaking around the lugs and corrosion. This, mostly w/cheap Wal mart bat's, has led me to
switch to a little more higher priced unit from Blaine's and so far, none have been seeping acid up around the lugs.
Plus the 10% vet discount makes me a happier camper!
 
I don’t have one installed. But can probably drill a hole somewhere near key switch or on dash. My 106 has a spare spot on dash possibly there. No this is a battery disconnect switch. Most usually Negative battery cable on 1 terminal other terminal to frame of tractor.
