New comment on mice..I just bought a 108 (mostly for parts possibles) ..Using a outside batt to jump s/g as a test...A major clunk was heard and of course caused serious concern.The plug was out and I could here a good 'whoosh"..I ran a couple more rounds ,when the s/g got up to speed the clunking stopped briefly..I'm thinking stuck valve .It seemed wise to pull head next.What I found around the flywheel was a large wet ball of mouse donations that did not want to come apart so when it turned over it was creating lots of pressure on shroud.An hour of digging and pulling got most of it out.With head still off I jumped it again and behold it turned just fine and sprayed a little on me as well. Valves worked fine also.Having cleaned a little carbon off I put head back on for a fire test tomorrow after points and cond.set....The point of all this ,sometimes you just don't know until you test your theories....The deck is super, it's a clean machine,all parts are there except a hood,maybe I bought a sleeper for junk price...I said maybe...the metallic crunch sound was definately the ball of mice gifts..
It's amazing where you find them. I try and keep 3 oldstyle traps in my workshop baited with peanut butter. In the past I would mark each trap after a kill. I got some weird satisfaction from that. I'm winning, I've killed hundreds of you and I haven't a scratch. I actually took pictures of the ones who gave it up the most gruesomely! Sort of a Wall of fame. Who can you share those with? Soon there was no room for new marks. 3 a day was an occasional bonus. Sometimes the little buggers would run off with my trap maybe winning that round but I'm sure they paid the price. I'm surprised I've had no serious damage other than the disgust of removing their horrid urine soaked wad of afterbirth.
I had a completely different battle with squirrels. They were fun to watch and were just foraging the seeds the birds determined unworthy. My acceptance of them paled by comparison to my wife's joy of watching and feeding them. Life was good. Until they moved into the attic. Based on my treatment of the mice, you can imagine how much I upped my game when rodents invaded my home......

I’ve had my bouts with them as well. I learned from this forum to use mothballs. They evaporate rather quickly I find, but I’ve taken to placing the mothballs in a Ziplock sandwich bag and putting some holes in the bags. That seems to slow the evaporation. I also learned here that perhaps electrolysis attracts them and that is why we find nests on top of batteries, etc.

One Spring I fired up my motorcycle and Sunflower shells shot out for 2 minutes. After that I rubber banded plastic bags over the pipes
Wow, now that's takin the battle to them! I am impressed.
I use electronic traps baited with peanut butter for mice and chipmunks. Yes, chipmunks. They undermined the foundation of the 10x12 shed housing my CC 102. We live on the edge of parkland and have three large oaks around the house. Sorry, critter lovers, but squirrels are vermin, are destructive. Are not getting in my attic. A Benj. Marauder .22 takes care of them.

I just read an article recently that said peppermint oil (very strong for cooking) works well because mice follow their nose so they don't want to be around anything that overwhelms their senses.I'm going to try that in my '48 instead of moth balls.Might have to change more often..

Band-Aid box filled with moth balls, stuck on back of the battery - been using in cars and tractors since the late 80's. No oil to spill. Have you had a problem with camphor balls, wud love to know?

Mice always go to the flywheel ! Weird I lay fabric softener sheets out every September! I put in my Muscle car too

Vick's vapor rub on the bottom sidewall of the tires has kept them out of my big tractor after having problems in the past.

Don't waste your time on peppermint oil. I spent over $40 on some, and it DON'T work. They were getting on my auto cabin filter, so I put some there.
After a day or two, they came back. So I put it on full strength. It was so strong, I could hardly breathe in the vehicle. Next couple of days, they left some more pee, poop, and nest material.
