I paid $3500 for my red 782 cub with 50" deck in 1982-3. Replaced old engine with a K17 ll, still in good mechanical condition and still runs good, my only concern is the sloppy steering (not sure how to fix it as I am not the mechanical). Thanks for the fun post.

Wow, I'm surprised there's as many 982's around as their is with what they cost! I do remember looking at one while I was mowing my 50 ft by 150 ft lot with my #72 and 38" deck. Actually look me less time mowing with an 18 inch push mower than using my 38" deck on the Cubby. Didn't take long mowing our BIG barnyard and house yard in rural Freeport, Illinois to make me realize I needed a 2nd Cub Cadet, turned out to be a well worn and slightly abused 129 & 44" deck. Took a while but finally made a nice tractor out of it, complete engine overhaul, paint & decals, rear tires. Sold it for $850 after I got the 982. Yep, guys that mow 2 acres or more are the ones hording all the nice Super Garden Tractors.
Before I got my 982 I went to an auction with a 2072 with a snow blower and a 50" mower and about SIX sets of mower blades. It sold for around $6000.
