If the bowl is leaking, why not just replace the gasket? Make one if you have to. I kind of like the sediment bulb type fuel filter and shut off valve. You can easily see if there's a lot of dirt or water coming out of your tank. If you must, replace it with a shut off valve and a fuel filter. I don't know if there is a kit to replace or eliminate the sediment bulb.
 
m.o. The biggest reason to keep sent.bowl is the shut off..If I know it will be a while before running again I will turn off sent. valve and allow carb to run out of gas..empty carb means no leaks and a clean carb to start up ..Just got to remember to turn key off !!
I've been doing the same thing for years. I shut the valve off when heading towards my garage. It usually always keeps running until I get it parked. I do this every time I use my Cub Cadet. It eliminates any chance of a gas leak from the carb and also the gas odor in my garage.
 
I have considered the same, a quarter turn ball valve at the tank and rubber hose to an inline fuel filter
I have a 104 and a 149 and both of the sediment bowls leak somewhere
$20 for a direct replacement is not bad at all…..IF they last
 
Send. bowls have been around almost since there were engines..There are clear plastic filters that still allow a visual if needed.Most bowls I leave on but add an inline filter after..Metal tanks rust,rubber hoses come apart ,even old gas cans rust,..My experience says that most small engine issues are fuel related so clean fuel is the highest priority.I'm "old school" but I use modern tires,batteries,plugs soooo....
 
I like the idea of a ball valve with an inline fuel filter. The reason I started shutting off the gas was that over the last 40+ years of Cub Cadet ownership I've had the float stick open and drain gas on my floor a few times. The front tire sat in gas and swelled the rubber. The tire eventually dried out but if I remember right the rubber cracked badly. That didn't happen often but once or twice was enough for me to start shutting the valve off every time. Plus, as I mentioned earlier, it eliminated the slight gas odor in my garage too.
 
Yep, 1/4 turn gas valve, and the BEST in-line filter I've found is a Mr. GASKET see-thru filter, clear PYREX cylinder, Vinton o-ring seals, fine nylon mesh filter sleeve, so fine I had one on my #72 with 10 hp Kohler fill up with water till it stopped the flow of gasoline and the engine died over the course of a summer of mowing. I could see the water level raise in the filter. I've NEVER had that happen with a sediment bowl. Summit Racing Has them for $13-14 with interchangeable thread-in hose barb ends to fit 3 different sizes of fuel line. I've been using them since about 1980 on my '1973 OSSA 250 CC SIX Day Replica Enduro bike, European bike with Mikuni (Japanese) carb, European bikes have filters built into the carbs, Japanese bikes have filters on the tanks, so Jap carb on Spanish bike has no gas filter unless you install one. Have one on my Super H, 33 hp, no fuel starvation.
Bet I've typed this recommendation for this filter on Internet forums close to 100 times, and somebody always says they won't work when I've used them for over 40 years.

Seriously though, they sound like they are awesome, holding water back like that. Just quit leaving the cub outside with the cap off! :errrr:
 
Thank you all for your recommendations. After researching and considering this is my grandfather's tractor, I decided to be cheap and buy the float bowl gasket (just like he would have. LOL). I really want to keep it as original as possible, right down to the tear in the seat from his pocket knife in his back pocket. So Jdrong, you win. LOL Sorry Dennis.
 
I vote for sediment bowl as well. The gasket is easy to cut but my troubles always come from getting the packing material to set correctly in the needle valve. My brother then tells me it's because I always close the valve when I'm done for the day. Then I pretend to crank on the little valve real tight and stomps goes away!
