Hard to tell about the worm gear wear looking at your pics on my phone. Can't tell if it's grease or wear, but I just don't like the looks. As for getting stuff from Charlie, heck you could just drive there since your both in the frozen tundra
I think the wife would lock me up if I said I was going to see Charlie for a couple bearings. Especially since she knows I drive past the IH dealership each day to and from work. She wouldn't like that reason for going on a road trip.
 
605 Bearing is what I'm finding for the side of the steering box. Need to figure out the size for the top of the steering shaft under the steering wheel instead of the plastic bushing and felt washer.

Throw a front wheel bearing in the steering tube and forget it. 👍
 
That pin is trash, IMO. I'd make a new one out of a Grade 8 bolt, or buy a new one.

What is the diameter of the pivot bolt? I'm guessing it may be different (larger) than the GT steering boxes.

Think its a 3/4" or 7/8" bolt.
Haven't measure it honestly.

3/4" bolt Matt.

Charlie's wheel bearing idea worked for the top end of steering tube. Used one out of a spare front wheel I had.
Needs to be from regular garden tractor, super front bearings are too big.
 
Nice 607V is the 3/4" version of the thrust bearing used for the GT steering columns. You'll also need a new locking jam nut.
 
What would cause these score marks, is it too tight, the nuts on the bolt, is something bent, or just worn out with age? Was going ro use one off 782 parts tractor but that on seems to be slightly smaller so likely not a good idea.
Can a new plate be made from 14ga steel or something along that thickness to replace the tin one if needed?

Is there a right and wrong way to install the thrust bearing? Only asking as one side is different than the other, didn't know if it made a difference?
 
I haven't touched any of mine since installation. It should last a long time between service intervals, as there really isn't much of a way for dirt to get it nor grease to get out.
