Went to Latrobe airshow today...not bad. Definitely not as good as pre-covid, but cool to watch. Not too bad for a V8...

What you driving?
I can get around 22 mpg as long as I stay under 70 mph with my 6.2L. I checked once, while driving around on Hatteras Island, and got 25 mpg.

2008 Volvo S80 - 4.4 yamah V8.
That's about monthly average. And here in rural PA, I'm lucky if I can stay in 6th gear and cruise 55-65 mph for more than 3-4 minutes.
My average speed is 28 mph...

When I went to Hagerstown on I-70, I went down and back on a little over an 1/8th tank of gas...👍😎👍

I got 22 mpg with my 2018 RAM 1500 4wd 4 door pickup "drafting" a similar pickup on I-94 at 80 mph over 145 miles from LaCross to Madison. I've gotten a solid 22 mpg another time so it's not a fluke. I get 16-17, sometimes 18 mpg on local short trips to/from town. Not bad for a 395 hp 5.7L Hemi. It has the tow package, 3.92 axle ratio, still runs 80 mph at 2000 rpm, and it tows great. I absolutely HATE to think of all the time, money, and gas I wasted on F-150's with 300-6's getting 13-14 mpg driving like an old lady to save gas. I was in kinda a hurry one trip to Dad's place, ran 65 mph into a headwind the whole way, got about 8-9 mpg. Think that was the '78 300-6 with the YF-1 bbl Carter carb. The '87 with EFI really wasn't much better. Carbide engine made 125 hp, EFI made 145, both had 3.50 gears and NP-435 Trans, 1:1 direct drive 4th gear, about 2500-2600 rpm @ 65 mph.

i wish to much cam, 1150 cfm holley, 4:11 gears behind a m22 .more a 1/4 mile machine than a street car, 71 or a 72 ?
72. 4.10 gears, big solid lifter cam (.620 lift 280 at .050 duration) richmond 5 speed (1 to 1 high gear) cross ram with twin 600 holleys, 2 1/8” headers, dual 3.5” mandrel bent exhaust

If I drive nice, it is closer to 10 mpg.
Growing up, my brother had the basic 307 Chevelle 1970. I thru a 350 in my '72 Vega Kammback GT. Wish I still had that Sleeper.
Currently, I get about 8MPG in my '75 CJ5, chevy powered.

Nice.
I bought my Chevelle in ‘95 when i was a junior in high school. It had the numbers matching 350 4 barrel engine (but with a bigger cam) and 4 speed. I put the big block and 5 speed in it. The original engine/ trans is in the corner of my garage.

funny since this thread is really about air shows, with a few pilots in this house, super nice am today so we took the old 1968 M20d for short run, N07 to N82 , fuel burn running at 140 knots was only 5.6 gallons a hour, bad side AV gas back at n07 is $7.50 a gallon , $100.00 please all for 2 hours of fun

Sbc in a vega or a sbf in a pinto , yes what sleepers they were if we kept them exhaust noise tamed down,
I had dual exhaust all the way over axle and out the back of rear tires. It was quiet . Stretched the coils to give the whole car a 2" lift. The headers needed ground clearance. The GT rims with 70's (wide tires) on all four. I drove it for 8 years before getting an offer I couldn't refuse. I should'a kept that car.
Yes, sorry we all went on a tangent
