Good morning. I have heard to things about replacing the mower deck belt. It's a 1450 with 44a deck. Should I go with the 3/8x79 inch belt or the 1/2 x 80 inch belt . I have been running the 3/8x 79 belt but need a new one.

You can use either 3/8 or 1/2, but the 1/2 belts are easier to get (Tractor Supply or local hardware store), I'd suggest the original 3/8 replacement as the current 1/2 belts you find are cheaper and don't seat as deeply as the original 3/8. I use Huskee belts and they are decent. Steer clear of this garbage...belt I got from the local Cub dealer lasted a round and half around the yard before it shredded...way too cheap and thin.

Confused yet??

Ok, lets ask another question. Has anyone ever had the collar on a rockshaft loosen from the lift lever? My lift levers on my rockshaft are not in alignment and the roll pins are good.

Joe,
If you have roll pins, there may lie your problem. They will break prematurely. They can shear off and leave the end pieces in the lift levers, making it look like they are ok.
If you have roll pins in there, replace them with spirol/spring pins. These are much much stronger and will last a long time.
P.S. A set of roll pin punches will greatly help you in removing and installing these pins. They are worth their weight in gold.

The rock shaft wears where the mower lift fork rides on it.
I have seen them worn nearly 1/2 way through.
This will lead to twisting of the hanger arms throwing them out of alignment.
The lift arms should be parallel.
The rock shaft on my 169 had this issue when I got it a while back. The PO had slobber welded a huge mess in there between the frame rails where it is tight 1/4s.
This required removal of everything, had to cut the shaft into 3 pieces to get it all out.
