Try to learn this thread. Use to post a lot in Ford forum while restoration of my 1970 4000SU. Learned alot.
Now building this cutting my field has a 50 inch mower deck. Front belt tension pulling has been messed with.
 
My first issue I working on is what is supposed to be down on the shaft for the mower deck belt adjustment pullies - spring assy. Mine the spring just slides off the left roller. Tension adjustment was maxed out. And the two roller mount seem bent like in a twist to left. The manual on line don't give a clear like a picture would.

Here is the correct setup
Note the positions of the two cotter pins in the pictures.
When they are in place they prevent the arms and the spacer from moving.
The spacer should be 4" long between the 2 arms.
Look closely, the c/pins may be sheared off in the holes.

Thanks I look close or maybe I take it off the tractor and clean everything and look for the pins. Thanks for the pictures
