Have owned a 106 for 15+ years. Began on a 12HP upgrade today.
It is a working tractor as it is. Found a 12 HP core engine to work with. Pulled the 12 apart far enough to find out it’s a rebuildable core. Have already purchased a creeper drive upgrade from CC specialty. Along with PTO & drive clutch parts to renew those items. Will renew engine to as near new as possible. Anything that is out of spec. Will be turned, bored, replaced.
 
Trying to pull the manual PTO from the front of the 12 HP. Have done this once before many years ago on a 10HP.
I have read entirely the repair manual section on the front PTO Clutch. Have removed 3 jam sets & removed 3 pointed sets from the PTO pulley. Have also removed 2 larger set screws from the entire assembly.

What am I missing? Is the assembly just stuck from time & rust.

Yes, sometimes they can be a real bugger to get off. The 6 set screws latch onto the bearing so once you have those removed you should be able to start working it off. The other 2 sounds like they are from the pulley behind the PTO.. spray some penetrant onto the PTO bearing and try working it off - rinse and repeat... If you have to - you can use a puller but that'll cause damage to parts that you are replacing anyway (usually)
 
Check the set screw holes to make sure nobody put three in one hole. As Mike said, spray it real good, especially on the bearing and in the set screw holes. Once you get the pto off, take a brass punch and tap the "basket" in just a little. Then shine the shaft up real good so you can get the basket off without bending it.
 
Then keep soaking and tapping it off.. They usually come free. Someone had a "trick" where they chained the PTO to a tree and used that to apply pressure.... I've never had to go that far.
 
As Matt suggests, triple check for more setscrews, Factory was 2 in a hole. Others have found 3.. But if no more screws in there. You should be good to go.
 
Checked for extra screws. None there. I soaked with PB, tapped pried lightly & quit. Decided to fab up a slide hammer that will catch “V” belt groove & try that tomorrow.
 
You might want to put a bit of pressure to it with a puller, not enough to distort anything, but just to put it under a load while it soaks.
 
Neil I've been working on getting a pto off a127 all week myself, finally got it yesterday. It took alot of soaking and the curved end on 2 pry bars and she finally slid off. I did wind up drilling out 2 set screws first though. Now I'm just waiting for the new springs and bearing from CCS,paint her up and back in business!

Neil, while you are there, should you consider replacing that front seal?
 
I read that once upon a time, but CRS got me...

You’re in for a ton of fun. That is my favorite thing: rebuilding engines.
