(1): Question, I have a few issues. I have the 15 horse Kohler engine. The muffler needs replaced. Question is, Is the exhaust port on these 15 horse Kohler engines Thread tapped for 1 inch thread pipe? I was hoping I could simply run 1 inch pipe to run a new exhaust & muffler. I figured, I should ask before-hand to save me time from unbolting the exhaust. Replacement muffler is like over hundred bucks.

(second question), 46 inch Mower deck issue, I just installed the PTO replacement belt, purchased from a Cub Cadet supplier. I have the correct PTO replacement belt installed. This Cub Cadet 2155 Series has a Mower deck height lever to choose your cutting height from 8 inch to 1 inch etc. The issue I'm having is, It seems. When I lower the deck the faster the blades. I all the power when mowing in setting 3 inch. But, when I try to mow in setting 4 inch seems as if I'm losing cutting power. What is this caused from or is there a fix for this?
(My last question), I purchased this Cub Cadet Used. The past owner cut the Headlight wires at the engine. I see 4 wires coming out from the engine for the headlights. 2 are Hot and 2 are ground. Does each headlight have it's own hot wire?

Exhaust port is not threaded...there are two 8mm studs 60 mm apart to accept the mounting flange of the muffler.

Thanks. It's a bummer they didn't 1 inch tap thread the exhaust ports on these Kohler engines. I guess, that's the benefit of Briggs & Stratton's over Kohler. I never was a big Tecumseh fan. These Kohler's must be from the Tecumseh family. I guess, the only option to buy a replacement muffler for these Kohler engines is either pay over a hundred for a muffler or buy a Moped Muffler. These Kohler engines has the same 2 bolt Muffler ports that's on a Tecumseh or a Japan/China Moped/scooters. To solve this issue requires removing the jug and giving it a 1 inch tap pipe thread.

They do make an muffler adapter but this one is only for older 8hp Kohlers.

I am glad they went away from pipe thread exhaust ports. With the aluminum head and an iron or steel pipe fitting, the fitting probably would have been thoroughly corroded into the head, and would have ruined the threads removing it. The gasketed/flanged port is a better design, hence why basically every small engine manufacturer today uses it.

There is absolutely nothing about a B&S L-head engine that is superior to this engine, except the cost of parts.

Well, your welcome with your opinion. I will add, Threaded Exhaust ports has been around for years. I never once had a issue with a threaded port. We're talking 3/4 inch threaded plumbing pipe VS basic exhaust pipe as on a moped or scooter. I've seen threaded old school exhaust last 30 plus yrs compared to the exhausts today. The Muffler MTD installed on this Cub Cadets 2000 S are junk. Splits at it's seams. Not to mention, the cost in replacement muffler. Hundred bucks for a muffler.
 
If you found a new one for $100, you should have bought it already...every place I could find that sells it has it listed for between $250-300.

It is not all one piece...get some other muffler of your choice and adapt it to the exhaust pipe already bolted to the engine.

If you've had "no issue" with a threaded exhaust port, you haven't worked on these things a lot, or have been exceedingly lucky.
