It just came to me about my confusion here a few years ago concerning the axle for 3/4" or 1" spindles. (Actually July 2017 was four years ago, wow.) The steering knuckle bolt holding the knuckle to the axle is the same size! SO, I didn't need to swap out an axle, which I did! I swapped out my 169 front axle for a 782 because the 782 uses the 1" spindle, BUT it's the same axle (544211r2, 759-3270) and I could simply swap out the knuckles?! The clue is since the steering knuckle bolt is the same size, am I thinking correctly?! I think I just had an epiphany! If this is right I can get rid of excess axles (with the pulley-grounded slots)!

Yes, the axle castings are the same between a 169 and 782. Only difference is the spindle itself.

Is there a cross reference or something to help identify what models have the 3/4" and 1"? I saw a junk 1330 for sale but don't know if grabbing the axle and spindles would be worth it. I have room in the garage crate for another set, may as well! I'll probably stay with the 782 axle for everything I have. Would it look awkward on a 70/100 model?

Yes, they are directly interchangeable. I have 1" spindles from a 782 on the factory axle on my 1450 (same axle as on the 1x8/9's) Some later Quietlines (1x00/1x50) tractors have 1" spindles also. We have 3 machines that have 1" spindles:

Factory:
Dad's 80 - 782
My 79 - 1650

Non Factory:
My 77 - 1450, which came off a 782

1330 is a lawn tractor, not a garden tractor, and has a completely different (smaller) axle.
