"I have a 1450 that I am building back up, and it had a Mallory coil on it. Will any automotive coil work on these, and/or is there any one brand that works better than others?" Not unless you get the proper resistor to drop the voltage to spec. I tried an aftermarket coil and it ran like...

Edward, follow the service manual. I had a hard time getting things right on the gap with my 1650. Set the basic point gap, locate the timing mark(s) and highlight them with paint or whatever to make them visible. Them time the rig per the manual with a timing light. Timing mine made all the...

Michael, it sounds like you have one of two possible things happening. 1 - The solenoid is bad. There are three terminals on the solenoid, two large and one small. Find the one large terminal that is hot. Jump from that larger terminal to the small terminal. If this causes the starter to...

Tom, I had all sorts of intermittent problems with the starting system on my 1650. It turned out to be a bad PTO switch that worked sometimes but not others. Process of elimination and it was nearly the last piece. It look like you may need more in depth suggestions on the actual wiring...

Donald, on the 'V', I am assuming in the spindle gusset? I only had to notch one of them for some reason. I think one of my spindles had been replaced at some point because the camber is slightly different than the other.

Kraig, do you have the parts diagram for the cylinders on the Johnson loader? I could use that as I want to rebuild the cylinders. They are not held in with a snap ring like others. I am not sure how they come apart, but if I had part numbers I might be able to find out more. If you want...

On the spindles, I went with this upgrade. Well worth the time and investment. The standard bearing are just not heavy enough, IMHO. ;) http://www.p.f.engineering.50megs.com/photo.html

Here is a shot of my pump mounting and the skid shield I made for it.

Kraig and Matt, I have a Johnson loader on my 1650. I had to add a forward brace from the top of the loader towers to the front of the frame (as you see on most loaders). One of my towers was bent forward and once I had that straightened out, I added the braces to prevent the bending in the...

Ccote, on the topic of hydraulic cylinders; I have a loader that seems to bleed down after it gets warm. I have been told that the fix would be to rebuild the cylinders. Are those o-rings what would be the cause of this? i am also daunted, but want to give it a try. I rebuilt the hydraulic...

On the topic of the fuel filter; I have been using the in line filter for an old Volkswagen Beetle and have no problems. They are stepped so that they work on 1/4" and 5/16" line. You have to tell the 'parts' person this or they will give you a blank stare. ;)

"John W. It will hold for a while, but when you heat that plastic, it gets brittle and the vibration will crack it again. Personally, I wouldn't trust it. It could really pop and cause a fire before you knew it." That is hat I am afraid of. It is holding for now, but I agree about a sudden...
