    125 timing story

So where is the best place to purchase a gasket set? Thank you

    125 timing story

The points are opening at the start of the compression. Which is 90 degrees past the window. They do open just as the compression starts to build. I will order a gasket set. I will pull the head and clean everything up. Then I can check all the timing marks while I'm in there. It will probably...

    125 timing story

Unless I'm missing something, If the plug is in and I turn the flywheel until I'm feeling good compression, then that should be within maybe 5 to 10 degrees of TDC? Because compression happens near TDC on the compression stroke? I realize the compression stroke encompasses 180 degrees of a...

    125 timing story

Have not had time to look at it any more. The sight hole is on the starter/generator side about halfway up and level with the crankshaft. The crankshaft key is solid and lines up the crank and flywheel. I have good spark with the new plug removed and grounded. I set the valve clearances and...

    125 timing story

Yes, that is the direction I am turning it. Clockwise it is. Everything I read said the S passes the timing mark before the T. The compression begins at about 90 degrees past the S and T. So almost straight down. Thank you Joe

    125 timing story

Ok, I have a small update. I had a few minutes today so I drained the oil to get ready to remove the oil pan and have a look at the timing marks. After a long day I wasn't ready to try to roll the engine over to get the pan off. I can't believe how heavy this engine is. Instead I put the plug...

    125 timing story

I took a picture of the top of the engine. It does look to me like the piston is under where the plug is laying. If I am looking at the top of the exhaust valve through the spark plug hole then the valve must be closing when it is at the bottom of it's stroke. That is when it sparks. I don't...

    125 timing story

I will take a look and get back to you. Maybe it is the valve I'm seeing and not the piston. Thank you Joe

    125 timing story

Hello, my wife and bought a 125 with a tiller on it around 6 years ago. It has always been really hard to start. It was a battle to get it to start before I ran a battery dead or jumped it with my pickup. Once it started it ran pretty well and tilled great. Lately it has not wanted to start at...
