    Check the air gap on the clutch. If it to large the coil can't pull it closed.

    The lower one is the dip stick, the upper one is for adding oil only. If the upper one had a long dip stick it would hit the balance gears.

    Check out the two safety switchs on the seat, left side front. I think one stops the engine if you get off, the other the deck.

    What about tires and tire pressure. A smooth tire with low psi is hard to turn. That's why some people go to tri ribs.

    Jeff try pulling the clutch lever back a little more. If the thrower stops then you need to adjust the clutch. It's just not quit releasing.

    In the picture below is the left bar of the lift frame arched more than the right. Mine is but it's was bent up when I bought it. But it look like it might need to arch a little more to clear the pully. It's a 441U deck from a 149.

    Jim, I had that same thing happen to me, meter pegged at full charge. What I found out was the small ground wire on the regulator had a bad connction. It is a braided wire, and if I remember correctlly it was at a crimped joint.
