FWIW- I was just over visiting a local die-casting shop last week to pick up a machine tool, and as I was walking by the packaging center, I saw four big caged-pallets of a popular aftermarket small engine piston-boxes. Coming out of the 2nd-operation line were conrods, cylinder heads, and...

    New tools in the shop!

LMAO! I like the CPU-fan trick! I have several different helmets, and for the really-tough-positions, I made a leather hood with an oxy-acetylene-type single-lense flip-up goggle fitted with a #12 shade. It's rediculously hot, and probably won't pass an OHSA inspection, but when you're in...

    Thoughts on a welder

Chuck- gas or gasless mig will do nicely for a small-space budget- if you did some arc in high-school, you'll adapt to MIG alright. As for welding thick, keep in mind that for those occasions where you need deep-holding-power, you can always fit up the parts and tack-weld them in place with...

AC Buzz box to AC/DC "Improved" Conversion Complete

Nice Job, Jonathan! He's right- the arc-stabilizer makes a BIG difference... having high-frequency AC at higher voltage superimposed on the high-current DC makes it rediculously easy to strike and maintain an arc under even the ugliest conditions. It's kinda like having a TIG, but not using...

My pleasure, Jim- sorry it took me so long to get it done for 'ya. D'ya have a picture of it installed? If so, post it, so the guys know what you're talkin' about!

    New tools in the shop!

Well, I'm makin' slow progress, but still progress, on the grinder. Got a pair of 46-frame MAE servos, lookin' for some CompuMotor C6 servomotor drivers, but just might save the servos and use a stepper for front-back and a DC brush-type motor for side-to-side... and as an...

    Keith E's Man Land...

And we all thought Keith sold his yeller-tractor stock off 'cause he was tired'a tractors... ...it's 'cause he needed room for construction!

Terry- Ann drove it, and I normally don't wear socks with my sandals, but decency demands that I do when I go in to work the Saturday Morning phone-shift... Decency doesn't demand, however, that I choose something other than my Imperials... so I dress for comfort.

Hey Everybody! A few months back, Terry Busch posted photos of a lift-test of his 'one-armed bandit', and while I was it too big'a hurry to carry out the measurements, I did wait for a moment while Ann clicked off a couple'a pictures while I was moving softener salt into the house. Here's...

Chuck- pardon me for saying so, but something tells me your driveshaft is about an inch too short... that rag-joint won't last too long... And by the way... THAT hydrostat ain't grimey... it's still identifyable as a hydrostat!

David- if you have power at the points, and the engine block ground path is good, there're only two things left that'll prevent you from having spark at the plug: 1) ignition coil bad 2) contact points aren't opening and closing Remove the point cover, turn the engine 'till the points...

Jim- that cup is a Kohler part, and they don't get any stronger'n that from the factory. Send that cup to me, and look-see how much room you have around the driveline- I'll straighten it out for 'ya.

Owen- you SHOULD be able to swap the whole rearend... The Wide-Frame and Narrow-Frame have same cases... most of it is essentially the same, but the 147 has a longer hydraulic suction tube... the thought was that by winding it around the hydrostat, the fluid would have a better chance to...

Terry- the bolts stick out the back far enough to put pressure against the sleeve hitch to keep it floppin'. If your bolts are long enough to protrude 1/2"-3/4" out the back, they're long enough. If they're shorter, they'll probably still work. Nice job, BTW...
