Joel, the first Kohler I built years ago would seize after it got good and warm. It would cool a bit and free up. Took it apart and saw no damage. Turned out the main bearings had no end play. The addition of a few spacer gaskets and all was fine. Before you or they reassemble your engine, make...

    On the soapbox again

So far, the record high for the Des Moines area is $3.45. This week it actually dropped to $3.33.

    STUPID things I witnessed today

Kentuk, I did something similar. Back in 94 I bought a brand new 16X80 mobile home from a dealer (a very shady one at that) in NE Ia. Had it set up about 15 miles east of Des Moines, about 110 miles for them to haul it. They called to say they were on the way with it and did I have the concrete...

Kentuk, the guys at the Dodge dealers know that compressed air valve holder trick well. Those early 5.7 hemi's are notorious for busted valve springs. David, a dab of DR. Tranny's Trans Goo has always worked better than grease for me. Just stick them 1 at a time with a needle nose pliers...

Marlin, looks like an axle from a Peerless trans axle found under 100 and 200 series JD tractors. Years ago when I worked for a Toro Wheel Horse dealer I replaced one in a 210 JD that near as I can tell they were trying to pop wheelies with. The fine splines go into the hub that mounts the wheel.

Yeah I know. Some folks say, "Don't confuse me with the facts. I've already made up my mind." Just to clear the air, I have snow so deep can't see the fence. A couple times we had a thaw and lost most of the snow only for it to get cold again and snow a bunch more. The motor grader that runs my...

Didn't miss the point. Look at the date when many of those record warm days were recorded. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how far back they will be. Weather patterns change. We always have had below 0 temps in Jan and Feb. Some years we have a lot of snow, others not so much. Same...

    China Cars (aka Motorized Coffins)

Exhaust emissions are the big difference. Remember in the 70's when pollution controls and insurance rates killed muscle cars? The EPA keeps tightening hydrocarbon emissions. The automakers will eventually wring max power out of what they make now. They do it gradually so they can "improve" a...

I have seen some good sized LP tanks mounted in pickups. 50 maybe 75 gal. You're right about filling them though.

    China!

Anybody remember back in the 80's when stuff from Taiwan was crap? I bought a shop fan made in Taiwan 'cause money was tight. Pretty much a cheap copy of a Patton. When put along side a Chinese fan the guy next to me has, that Taiwan fan is first rate industrial grade!

I'm sure glad I saw this post. The missus and I got one for a wedding present back in Sept. Now I don't feel so bad about not knowing how to make the dumb thing work...

    China Cars (aka Motorized Coffins)

Dean, check out GM's C/K trucks with 5.3L and active fuel management. It's kind of like the old 8-6-4 Caddy except AFM actually works. 18-22 mpg rating. The PCM cuts 4 cyls out when not needed by unlatching the lifters so the valves stay closed and stops fuel injection. It will run like that...

Kentuck, not trying to be a smart a**, but how many engines does MTD manufacture? My take is they are talking about premium gasoline vs regular unleaded. Here's another thought. Propane burns comparatively as clean as alcohol and even has about the same octane rating. Engines burning propane...
