First off, I have this working relationship withe old girl :). It seems the more I use the Cub, the more I appreciate it over previous years of "modern" tractors with all their sheet metal stampings and complicated belt and pulley systems. Another is the 16 horse "thumper" has it's sweet spots if you know where to use them for the best RPM & avoiding least desirable ranges for hauling or mowing. The overhaul and Kirk's plate is paying dividends.

So the question is that now the temps are in the 40s with overnight lows in the 30s, when I start the tractor in an afternoon, the hydro unit tends to "howl" a bit. Even with a 2 minute warm up, moving forward is a bit jerky. After about a half hour and things have warmed up it's more normal. It has new Hy-Tran with probably no more than 60-80 hours on it and filter from Case-IH which I believe is the usual 15-20 micron rating. Are these hydro Cubs cold blooded as they say until they've "had their coffee"?

It's all normal! Fire it up and Let-R-Eat!

You should hear my 1450 at 40 below. :roflol:

unless you are below 10F all the time, Hytran or Hytran Premium will work fine. if below that and you are concerned, Hytran SSL or Hytran Premium Synthetic would work way below that, but would be more expensive. the difference on these is back in 2021, CNH went to different supplier for oil. while the op manual has nothing for SSL or Synthetic as back then there was none, both will work backwards. the main reason to use "HYTRAN" is as i have posted before on this forum, Hytran does not have zinc in it and its ability to suspend moisture. when i was using the 1450 to plow, i had hytran in it, i dont believe the garage was ever below 0, but was colder when outside when warmed up.

NO! Synthetic will not work backwards! The SU15's are not designed to use it! :bash:
