I AM JUST BEGINNING THE RESEARCH ON HOW TO BEST GO ABOUT CONVERTING MY 1872 ALUNIMUM REAR END CASING INTO A CAST IRON REAR END CASING, THE GENERAL QUESTION TO START WITH IS WHICH CAST IRON DONOR IS BEST CHOICE FOR MY CONVERSION?

THANK YOU, I AM EXCITED TO GET INVOLVED WITH THIS SITE, I WILL BE POSTING PICTURES OF MY CCC1872 ASAP! THE BEFORE AND INPROCESS PICTURES AS THE WORK PROGRESSES. SOFAR, I HAVE XTREME MOTORWORKS 3PT. CAT 0 LIFT W/ H.D. A FRAME, AXEL SUPPORT BRACES, HYDRAULIC LINE SPLITTER KIT, NEW TRANS AXEL COVER WITH FILL DRAIN PLUGS, 4 NEW BKT SKID POWER H.D. TIRES W/ A 10" 5 ON 4.5 FRONT RIM MOD THAT I AM CONVERTING TO THE 5 LUG TAPER BEARING FRONT HUBS, AND A START ON SOME NEW PAINT FOR THE BODY PARTS. THIS TRACTOR IS IN GREAT SHAPE AS IS BUT THE RESTO/MOD THAT I AM DOING IS TO BE THE WORK HORSE OF MY COLLECTION, I ALSO HAVE A 1969 IHCC 125 IN PARTS BEING RESTORED SLOWLY OVER TIME WITH THE K321 REPOWER COMMING TO LIFE, THE K301 IS FINE BUT I CAME ACROSS ADEAL ON K321 BLOCK SO I FIGURE I WILL RUN IT, AND LASTLEY I HAVE A CASE 444 HYDRIVE THAT I WILL PUT INTO SERVICE SOON, SOME CARB. WORK AND A FIRST START AFTER 3 YEARS SITTING, THIS TRACTOR CAME WITH 6 DIFFERENT CAT 0 IMPLEMENTS. SO, I CAN USE THEM ON CASE OR CCC. SORRY I Am TALKING TO MUCH BUT I AM EXCITED ABOUT MY TRACTORS.

THATS THE BACK STORY BUT FIRST AND FORE MOST I NEED TO FOCUS ON THE THREAD FOR ALUMINUM AXEL CONVERSION TO CAST IRON AXEL FOR CCC1872

Welcome, Marks. Can you post some pics of your entire collection?

Mark,
Welcome to the forum! :groupwave:
Replies may be slow coming in. Most are out or away during this holiday weekend. Things will pick back up in a week or two.
You could do a search (upper right corner) to get you started. You may find some old posts with some of this info in it.
Also, I highly recommend looking at the frequently asked questions (5th one down), listed under the IH Cub Cadet Tractor topic.

Admittedly I am not a fan of CCC or later equipment, for me if it wasn't built by IH it doesn't exist. Now having said that, I have watched more than a few folks talk about swapping out the aluminum rear housing because they want cast iron one.. but I honestly have never seen a failure of an aluminum unit with the extreme braces. Perhaps it has happened in a pulling tractor or some such and I haven't seen it.... but I don't think it's an all that common occurance. Now I do believe in the golden rule. Which is he who is spending the gold makes the rules! But swapping out the rear end housing wouldn't be high on my priority list.

Glad that most don't share your beliefs. Some of the best Cubs were designed and built by CCC. They took a robust machine, and made some upgrades. Now after 1997, Cub and MTD can go pound sand..
And that is kinda my point. - the Ally rear has a bad reputation... but do they really fail once you install the braces? I'm thinking it's much ado about nothing.

The ears can and do break off in extreme situations, and the frame to rear bolts break off in the alum. housing or loosen. Due diligence goes a long way! I don't hear of ring gear or fine spline axle shaft failures.
