Just got a '68 IH Cadet 60. Broke the chain and it gets all 4 gears while turning the trans output sprocket with Channel Locks. The 6 HP Tecumseh turns over freely using the electric starter. throws good spark, and has good compression. The rust dust & crust in the float bowl was amazing, never seen anything quite like it. Was able to get the brass bowl nut &high speed screw out and the high speed adjustment screw to move with the application of penetrating oil & heat. So far I haven't broken anything. Not even gonna try to get the float pivot pin out. The needle droped out, and some of that rust must have once been the clip that holds it to the float adjustment tab.

She wants to run, everything's looking good except I need to clean the carb & tank. The only thing missing is the ignition switch, battery & combo throttle/choke lever plate, the control rods. and the spring that goes on the gov lever. Easy enough to make up that throttle/choke lever and some rods out of coat hanger wire & find a spring. It's in pretty good shape for something that was recently dug out of the weeds.

Howard, your just as big a fool as I am,trying to save all this "old stuff"..It is quite challenging tho.You have to question your sanity once in a while.Once it's running you can grin a lot and say there "I did that"
pretty cool...

Those old bathtub cubs are fun. The extended camshaft for reverse function is cool. I have a few extra parts in SW Missouri if you get into a bind. The Tecumseh engines and their ignition system are interesting. The timing is critical. There are some good resources for this on YouTube - need a dial indicator. Good luck.

Thanks for the offer of parts, but I don't feel in dire need of anything just yet. We'll see how it goes when i get it running, and into the testing & adjusting phase. The carb is iffy, might not be able to get the idle circuit to flow gas/air mix. I ordered up a kit for it + the bowl drain button rubber washer.

Looks like the replacement float bowls don't have the bowl drain at all. Tentative plan is to lap the drain hole in the float bowl with a nail in a drill & valve grinding compound until it's smooth enough to make a good seal with the new rubber washer. It's pretty rusty but I'm going to clean it up. I love those float bowl drain valves. The carb wouldn't be in such horrible shape if the previous owner had used the bowl drain button. :shame: 🚨

There's a 60 for sale near me. Looks good, price is good, but I don't get along with Tecumsehs, and John spoiled me. He got me hooked on the white ones.

I like the pressure fed oil system on that Tecumseh 6 HP! The plunger oil pump is driven off of an eccentric on the cam. The white ones don't have that, do they? Plus the 60 has four speeds, both forward & reverse.

My 60 that I am restoring is still in pieces. I got lucky that it had a replacement block at one time. No taper or out of round in std cylinder. Here is the white one that Jim is talking about -85 special with my son laughing as he was mowing. Works great on a steep yard. Low center of gravity-safe!

I'm glad that that guy ran out of red spray paint before he finished the whole thing !!!
Going to try to get that red off with some scotchbrite & paint thinner.
