Jonn, you can prove switch by unplugging, then jump across the terminals of plug.If pto continues to run you have your answer....however it may not be as easy as it sounds, depending how safety wire is tied in.Might require an extra set of hands if seat safety still works...you can also jump plug on clutch with pos..neg wires but running it wouldn't seem wise

Jonn,I guess my advice on pto switch jump is off a little. There are 3 red in one plug and 5 colored in the other plug(wonderful safety goodies)...If it were me I'd buy another switch and hope it's the problem. I just acquired this 1864 and would have loved to seen it new...It must have been great....I bought it for parts,it's been ridden hard 2200 hrs but all the hyd are there and that inspires me....

I love the tractor they don't make anything new to even compare to it now days, I also have a 2082 with blower and cab that I park in the summer and use the 1864 to mow with, I remove the pto switch from the 2082, kind of of pain to get to, but with the 2082 switch same thing? it must be a safety switch, but one one?????

Jonn, just a maybe but....perhaps the clutch is tired...they are just electro magnets and eventually an issue may/may not come up..can you unplug the clutch wire and jump the clutch direct ,then leave it on for awhile to see if it stays in? This can be done where the plug recep is on the side of the clutch. the elec. part is enclosed in epoxy so really can't be repaired. a couple of small alligator clips should work but I have not looked at this particular clutch so.......

Jonn, there is also the possibility that clutch plug is bad and the wires are not good..I've seen several that were damaged by flipping sticks (I assume) if it breaks continuity because of a bad wire I doubt it will reconnect on it's own...The clutch plugs I've seen are terrible engineering because a broken wire inside the plug in means a new clutch....these should have a break away plug (pigtail) that won't damage the internals....I've pulled nails and screws from others attempts to keep it going. keep me informed and I'll check my 1864 to see if I can find anything that will help..

thanks for your help, I thinking that has something to with the safety switches, I just hot wires with a toggle for now, clutch is fine, just mowed 2 acres no problem

It could possibly be your reverse switch or reverse relay. Mine lost ground on the reverse relay and did the same thing. Cleaned connection and been fine ever since. Good luck.

My reverse switch is also bypassed, but when the reverse relay lost ground, it did what you’re describing. Just trying to help with suggestions. The relay ground is an easy check on the left side of the tractor.
